Hi Ive just got into mountain biking and hav been looking at bikes. I know the rule is never buy a sub 1000 pound full sus mountain bike but I saw the new 2013 rockrider 6.3 and it looks awesome is it a good bike does anyone own one?
I would be using it on single tracks like grizedale north face and llandegla singletrack?
Is it good or a load of rubbish ??
Thanks
it will be heavy and the suspension probably won't be great,...i think you could probably get a decent full susser for below £1000, but £365 is pence for a full suss bike...
keep saving...
what is your top end budget?
I bought one not long after I started riding and then promptly replaced it with a better bike...very heavy, the brakes aren't great, forks are very average, rear shock almost ineffective and the tyres are awful. It will get you round trail centres but you probably won't enjoy the climbs!
The Rockrider 8.1 is a decent bike but as above you can definitely get a sub-£1000 full susser that's OK particularly if you look second hand but for £500 or less you should be looking at hardtails.
Take it from me it's a waste of money because if you really get into biking you'll just want to replace it as soon as you can.
Hi guys thanks for that I am only 13 so I might get one for bday and upgrade parts butget prob 400 quid.
I have looked at the voodoo hoodoo mountain bike which looks amazing but im not sure.
I really like voodoo but I think the hoodoo is the only good looking hardtail they do if u know any good suggestions that would be great thanks
Save up 800 quid and get a 9.1. The cheapest proper full suss IMO. Decathlon do cycle to work so you could pick it up for about 500 quid if your work takes part.
Edit - I doubt paper boys get cycle to work vouchers 🙂
Yeh that looks cool but im only 13 so dont work .... Unless they do a cycle to school scheme.... Anyway that full susser was just a thought Ill prob stick with hardtails.
I also thought about getting frame forks. ... Etc and making it myself for less
Just looked at the hoodoo the spec is impressive as for the looks I think if I put a shorter stem it would look awesome.
yes, your on the right lines there, Suntour do some decent forks now too, looks good to me.
Thanks for your help guys this forum is epic
I got the 6.3 when I first got into mountain biking and didn't know what to look for. All in all getting that bike was a waste of money because the parts on it are poor especially the suspension, I later upgraded every part slowly and put it all on a hardtail frame bought after.
Defo get a hardtail at that price.
