I wondered if any of you that have the pleasure of owning a Cotic Rocket have noticed any damage to the down tube at the point where the black part of the drop link system works its magic? I started with one side with a couple of chips out of the paint work and now both sites have suffered the same fate. Rides fine just wondered if anyone else was noticing it, am going to helitape the area to see if I can halt its progress.
I wish you well with that matey. Sad to hear on a bike that can't be 6 months old.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a fault. I am wondering if its just abrasive muck getting into the mechanism and rubbing. Wanted to know if anyone else had found the same.
Ive found the paint work on Cotics isnt very robust. Chips pretty easily. I think its that rust proof coating the give the frames, perhaps its doesnt key very well to it.
It is one thing I noticed from photos of the Rocket, the way that link contact the frame at that point. I always thought it needed an adhesive protective pad or something as it obviously will wear the paint at that point. I think an adhesive cable rub pad will do the trick replaced as required as the pad wears.
Do you mean the seat tube john? If it's the small gap between the droplink and the sides of the mounting bracket, unfortunately if you get some grit jammed down there it will give the paint a going over. As with anything in design it's a compromise, and to get the packaging as narrow as possible to avoid calves and ankles on the outside, that gap was squeezed down as far as possible. We've not had any trouble with it on our demo fleet, but one of the prototypes got a bit scuffed there. Key thing is to make sure that slot is clean and clear before each ride as it dry sharp grit/mud that does the damage. If it's sloppy and wet (as it often is around here) it doesn't seem to cause any trouble.
I think it is probably the clay based muck from the south downs, it's pretty tough to wash away, some might call it 'a tad claggy'. Do I need to be concerned about rusting in that area now? I will apply tape this evening, thanks for the replies.
It's always best to touch up scratches down the metal, but it'll not dissolve so don't worry too much.
