You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hello
I am getting a Focus sam2 170mm front and rear ebike with this fork, as i understand it is the basic model... what kind of tuning can there be done on it ?
One thing i would like is it should ride high in its travel, good at small bumps...
I mainly ride flatter, faster single track, no bigger hucks....
Can I ask why you are buying an E-bike,sold as designed for enduro and downhil with 170mm of travel ? When do you expect to use this travel ?
Flatter faster Singletrack might be a bit dull on a 170mm travel ebike. That thing is going to weigh a lot - Zebs are seriously chunky forks. That’s designed for winch and plummet - ideal for self uplifting DH style trails. I’d be getting something lighter / shorter travel for flatter Singletrack riding - it’ll be more fun!
Looking at the Focus site, the Thron2 looks more the thing, the fox suspension is very tunable.
The Focus Ebikes are some of the best looking IMO, I'm jealous OP.
I guess you mean the Zeb Select, the select has the new debonair shaft so should do both the things you are after of riding high and having small bump, my lyrik did when I upgraded, I was able to remove a token and run more air so it sat higher whilst still having good small bump.
Although lower model it'll still have tuneable air pressure, compression and rebound, you should be able to drop tokens in it too. I wouldnt worry about it being the select version.
My last bike was a Pivot mach 6, 155 mm of travel, and i used all its travel...... ! .. i like a bike that flattens the terrain... so i thought 170 mm would be perfect...
On the focus website it says :
Rock Shox ZEB 29 Boost, Charger R, DebonAir, 110x15 mm, 44 mm rake, 170 mm travel
so i thought it would be the entry level zeb like this one:
If you were using all the travel on the Pivot, you may well be doing more than just crosscountry, so your choice is more understandable, please accept my apologies.
It's external rebound adjust only. You could open the damper up if you know what you're doing, or buy a better damper https://www.bike24.com/p2383039.html
Ride the bike first
Couldn’t you Mibbe get the model up from the one your looking at
Might be cheaper buying the whole bike with the better damper etc instead of buying base model and then altering the fork
This. Ride it first. The Zeb is supposed be be quite nice and needs less PSI/BAR
thanks thejesmonddingo! no harm done 🙂
HoratioHufnagel.... - It looks nice the Charger 2.1 RC2 Damper Upgrade Kit for ZEB from bike24 worth considering
-yep and as you say, give it a go, i will!
I have that fork and it's great. From your description, you can probably remove one or both of the volume spacers it comes with to make it more linear and access all the travel. The latest air spring is supposed to sit higher in its travel anyway.
My setup is no spacers, 85psi->30% sag, rebound set to suit.
Not felt yet that I need to look into changing the damper, but guess I could swap that out later if I want to.
