Hey guys,
sure this has been asked loads, but heading to Bike Park Wales this weekend. Been a few times, but wondered what sort of Comp Dampening you guys would run somewhere like that?
Mine is dialled in at three clicks anti-clockwise. Not sure if that's about standard? I know it's personal preference, but for the kind of trails at BPW, I'm wondering what you guys out there would run?
Cheers
Rob
anticlockwise?
The dial. Fully turned to the right then 3 clicks anti-clockwise.
I pulled my Pikes apart at the weekend and was reminded (again) of something that doesn't seem to get much attention. There is lots of talk about damper settings and adjusting the size of positive (and sometimes negative) chambers, but most people seem to ignore the lowers, which seem to be essentially air tight. You (or at least I) can totally transform how they feel depending on how much air is in the lowers.
To answer the original question though; mine are the same as @giddyrob, but only 2 clicks.
isnt that a lot of compression damping. mines fully open (full anticlockwise)
Yes I think so - if you turn from full left position, clockwise you are adding comp damping so OP has a lot wound on. I find that I have to run with it at 0 or 1 click to get the small bump sensitivity right whilst maintaining an air pressure that gives the right sag. I thought this was a common "complaint" about the Pikes which the luftkappe/debonaire versions attempt to fix or have I got that wrong?
MINE ARE DEBONAIR AS WELL.
Yeah, just never touched it. How come you leave yours off completely?
because they dont track very well if i wind it on.
However im running 100psi (leg suggests 80) to get 20% sag. about 7 clicks of rebound.
i see it as effectively a lockout tbh
Lave mine fully open - unless I'm doing something steep and lumpy (Dollywagon etc) where I've got a lot of weight over the front wheel, in which case put it to about 1/2 way
Sorry, just realised that I misunderstood @giddyrob. Mine is fully anti-clockwide (open) then 2 clicks on.
Most run 0-3 clicks from fully open. If you're running compression damping mostly closed it's gonna be pretty harsh.
It's a balancing act, most of the time more low speed damping produces a harsher ride. But not enough, and you end up in the progressive part of the air spring and hit peak force. That also feels harsh.
You basically want just enough damping to keep the fork up, but not so much that it makes the ride harsh.
5 clicks LSC from fully open works for me after a few sessions tuning with the ShockWiz and some tweaking to suit my riding style.
I run mine fully open. I find this the most plush setting with just enough support. But if I’m riding larger stuff and want a little extra support I add 2-3 clicks of LSC damping.
Got a luftkappe on mine and they are fully open. No rebound or tokens either. Simples 🙂
