I ahve to admit I am more road than trail (well recently) but have a scott scale with rock shox SiD forks, not sure which model but they say dual air and have a lock out.
The forks worked fine for a while but now the lock out does not work at all. The forks are still springy but dont lock out.
LBS says they need to go off to Rock Shox for a rebuild, is this good advice and are they likely to come back with a lasting repair? ie is it economically worth the effort.
I have I committed a cardinal sin my hanging my bike up vertically by the front wheel?
Any sensible advice appreciated.
Notice any oil leaking out from the top of the motion control damper from the floodgate area? This would be my first thought given you have been hanging the bike up vertically (Happened with my Revs when I did the same): the oil level drops below the circuit so the first thing is you notice the 'lock out' not working.
Probably just needs damper removing, drain any remaining oil then put correct amount of oil back in...very straight forward and worth a go before sending off to Fishers for a rebuild
The lock out on my RCT3 Revs just stopped working, so I sent them off to Loco. Apparently the whole control unit had detached from the housing. As I wanted them serviced anyway I was only charge a token extra for some labor.
However about 4 weeks later I put the lock out on just as I was getting off a train for the ride home on the road. Went down a curb and the forks depressed... The lock out switch was jammed this time and it wasn't working again. Sent back to Loco who said it was in bits this time and totally screwed so they sorted me a warranty replacement (out of warranty time I might add). It's been fine ever since.
In short have someone look at it. 🙂
Puffy, most likely it's the rebound seals head seal that's blown, causing the damper oil to leak into the lowers and the lockout to become spongey.
If you let all the air out you may not get full travel due to the lowers hydro locking because of the extra oil.
