I have a couple of probably daft questions.

Do you have to mark the car with something so you know where / how far apart to place them and as so they're so easy to fix, do you remove them and put them in the car while you're off on your bike? Is these things getting nicked from car roofs a thing or does it just not happen?

I just put the front bit on first, attach the bikes, then place the rear suction cup under the wheel.

Just remember to wipe your roof down wet so the surface is smooth.

Depending on where I park, sometimes I just leave them on the roof, but I take them off during the week and stick it all in the boot. Really good for the money, but I do miss my tow bar.

I fit mine to the bike and lift the whole assembly onto the roof that way the spacing is always right.

It does require a smidgen of fore thought as to how things are going to happen but it's not difficult to manage once it's systemised.

I've just realised I'm talking about mine as it's a double. I'm guessing yours is a single?

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.
I've not ordered one yet. Any recommendations as to who to get one from? I'm looking at the Rock Bros on Ebay but there seems to be so many. I'll probably go with the double fitting.
Is it easy to switch between the different axle fittings? Both my wife and I have bikes that are 100mm qr and 15mm thru axle so we could find ourselves needing both fittings to be 15mm at the same time, qr at the same time and even one and the other at the same time.
Thanks again.

They come with QR standard and when I bought mine, I had a choice of end caps. They're just 3d printed bits of plastic with rubber o rings to keep them attached, really simple.

Within about 3 uses I could place the suckers on the car in almost the exact position needed for the bike.

First put the front ones on and 'suck' down > put the rear one on (not sucked on) > put bike on and tweak the position of the rear sucker as required > suck air out of rear sucker.
Axle caps just pull out and push in easy.

I bought some toe straps and attach the front wheels to the side of the bike (resting on a pedal) instead of putting muddy wheels in the car.

Remember to make sure the surface is clean, and the surface is wet before you put the sucker on.

This is all great information, thank you. You've all been very helpful. Any recommendations on who to buy from or are they all the same? I'm going to order some this week.

You wouldn’t want to leave them on your roof anywhere parked up unattended, very easy to remove.

That's what I was thinking but I have no experience. I suppose I could take them off and put them in the boot while I'm riding but that then kind of defeats the object. I only have a small car and I don't want the faff of putting the seats down every time I'm out with my bike. I'd have to do that, I think, if I was putting a double Rock Bros carrier in the car.
Bikes are not allowed near my wife's T-Roc.

I remove mine when I'm riding, it's just not worth the risk of not being able to get the bike home if someone pinches it! I'm tempted to leave it on in some locations, but it's so quick and easy to take on/off I just do that all the time- opportunists who would steal it could be anywhere.

Just buy wherever is cheapest, and remember to order all the adapters you need. I ordered a few extra just in case. I think a pal got his from Germany a bit cheaper than I did off eBay.
