I do think you have to earn yellow bar tape, everyone will assume you're aping Wiggins anyway;

I don't think you need to earn it, but if you don't have a matching saddle, then it's aesthetically wrong.

the saddle bit did worry me 😉

Yellow bar tape means you think you're Tour leader

White bar tape means you think you're FAST (you better be!)

Best to stick with black...

(Red always seems like a good idea but never turns out looking good)

Dont have any pictures but i put on some the lizard skins yellow tape at the weekend. Its nice and grippy and comfortable, but i get the feeling after a couple of rides that the yellow is going to be almost as bad as white for showing up the dirt

As for having yellow tape - I dont have a Porte, a Rogers and a Froome to pace me up all the KOM segments i lead on Strava which surely puts my achievements on an even higher level than the current tour leader. I also dont wear black socks and have a pair of shorts that fit properly so I look more pro too. 😀

Respect the jersey.. and the accessorising trend of recent years can do one. Is the jersey not enough? (Blame sponsors not the riders)

Even so, yellow bar tape - grim. Acceptable for the Tour leader only. Too much of a colour block to work usually. The best bit about coloured tape is it's easy to change a few weeks later )

The Fizik stuff is lovely, and cleans up really well, so hopefully shouldn't stay all that grubby.

Wonder if it will come with boobs to sign?

what amuses me most in that photo is the square lad taking a pic of sagan getting in the way of the dark haired lad trying to photograph the norks.

I've got white deda tape. Lasted 4 rides before I got caught in the rain; now it's quite grubby

I've got white fizik tape on the summer road bike. Even old manky chain oil just wipes off.

FWIW, despite being sceptical beforehand, aka_gilo's "yellow cable yack" along with a yellow saddle looks really good in the flesh...

Nah, not that I'm given to restraint on such things normally, but I think there's enough yellow on my Boardman, yellow tape as well would just be TOO much.

Apologies for hijack!

Having bought the bike back in July, I [i]finally[/i] got all the 105 bits off the old crosser on, sold all the apex bits, redistributed finishing kit between it and the road bike and last Thursday wrapped the bars.

First ride last Friday, first race last Sunday.

Although I'd read glowing reports on them, I was a little nervous as to how it would ride. I needn't have feared - it's a brilliant, brilliant bike. Feels really fast, handling is great, low speed tight manoeuvres were particularly impressive, but it's also stable at speed without feeling barge like - it remains nippy. The BB5 brakes are excellent, and far far better than I was expecting given some folks thoughts on them - I don't feel the need to upgrade them at all (yet at least!).

And I think the yellow tape works great!

Bontrager tape. It's slightly 'orangier' than the yellow on the frame, or the yellow of the previous tape which I think was ITM stuff from Ribble.

The fizik tape is actually a very good match to the boardman yellow - my crappy phone pics don't really do it justice.

I've just put white on the bars of what will become my commutah soon (a year or so). Intention is that it'll quickly look bloody awful and make the bike another bit less nickable (I'm going to smear the frame in thick grease too, to mucky the [s]shellsuit[/s] clothing of any would-be thief)
