have been given a bike by a friend to try out for a few weeks before deciding whether or not to buy it!
as I'm usually a mtber so haven't got a clue to be honest!
has a campagnolo daytona chainset,
campagnolo veloce mechs brakes and shifters.
standard bianchi carbon forks..
m707 wheels
does anyone know what year it is and how much roughly its worth, its in good nic, just a small bit of wear on the backside of the forks!
I would guess it is about 7-8 years old. I have a base model ML3 from the same period which looks similar. My ML3 when new was fitted with Campag Mirage and was about £800. The bike in the picture may have had a few upgrades. No idea on what it would be worth now. The frame on mine is actually quite cheaply made and the fork started to fall apart. Not sure what the model in the picture is. It looks better specced than the ML3 in terms of groupset, possibly one up in the range.
It's the ml3 alloy
Well, its better specced than the model I had which had plastic brake levers. Not sure what it would be worth now but they handle and climb beautifully. I would think your friend has upgraded it a bit over time as the standard wheels on the ML3 were pretty pants.
Check the underside of the fork crown, the carbon legs are bonded to an alloy crown and steerer and I found that the carbon got chipped away over time by stones getting thrown up by the front tyre.
Nice fast bike if you can get on with it. The Italians know how to make a decent road bike.
Its hard to guess without checking it over personally, but I wouldn't pay more than about £300, maybe less. Road bikes can be pretty cheap these days.
Brilliant guys, thanks for the help!
The fork has chipped away behind the front wheel, well the paint has anyway, is this an issue?
Depends what caused the chip and how deep it is. I couldn't get over the deep chip on my forks last year so swapped them for some PX ones. Probably wouldn't have snapped or anything but I was happier spending 50 quid to avoid (well, reduce) the chance of a tarmac-face interaction.
took it out for a spin tonight, felt nice and fast but then thats what i assumd it would be like anyway!
the chain kept coming off the top ring though? I'm assuming this isn't normal for road bikes? ha!
front mech needs re adjusting (limit screw at least). I borrowed a bianchi with campy veloce (much newer than that) and it all but put me off road riding. I subsequently bought a bike with shimano 105 and it is a revelation. I've never had MTB gears that were as bad as that campy.
Unless its a mates rates giveaway youll find newer and better at reasonable prices.
