Hi all,

Looking for a set of roadie shorts or bibs, with a pocket (for phone, keys, cash, and a bar). Budget of around £30. Ideally a relatively plain design.

Any suggestions?

Ta,
Duane.

I have a pair of Endura bib-shorts with a pocket around the small of my back. It's just big enough for a phone but it wouldn't take much more. What's wrong with jersey pockets?

The only bibbed shorts with pockets I know about are the pro ones......but the pocket is only big enough for there radio gear

The tops have the pockets get them...or you can always get a " fanny pack"......lol

The Giro Ride Bib Short has pockets but is slightly out of your budget...

Haha, shouldn't be surprised with these responses I guess!

I'm trying not to turn full-roadie so currently ride with baggies over cycle shorts, t shirt (or long sleeve baselayer), and Vans shoes.

Want to get some comfier cycle shorts, so figured drop the baggies but then need to carry stuff, and quite like wearing t-shirts!

Giordana Silverline (and perhaps others) have a small stash pocket on the back, not that you'd get much in there or easy access to it...

Of all the stuff-carrying solutions available to the cycling world...

...you pick this one?

🙂

Just get some decent bibs as you plan and a fitted road style Jersey with 3 pockets. Loads of space, and if you want use a small seat pack for heavier stuff.

Rapha ones do. I put a tube and/or a small energy bar in mine. It's quite handy having this pocket as it helps spread the load pocket wise and means i don't have to use a saddlebag

Getting road shorts under that price, whilst by no means impossible, is reducing your choice somewhat. Finding pockets at any price is reducing that choice to very very few. Combine your price and a pocket? Dream on.
Pray tell, why wear anything over the lycra on the road?

£30 won't get you what you are looking for. The SWAT's up there is what you asked for but well over your budget.
If you are so keen not to look like a roadie then just use your Camelbak.

The spesh SWAT bibs are a mesh liner.

Mind if I ask why you don't want to look like a roadie? For all the fashion involved, full lycra with stuff in pockets (and a saddle bag if you desire) is more comfortable and just works better on the road.

Bibs work because they hold the pad in place with the minimum of fuss - so if you had pockets in the bibs they would be in the wrong place (digging into your rse, not comfy) and pull the shorts out of position (chafing, not good)

as the others have said, an inexpensive road jersey with 3 pockets is the way to go, a little saddlebag for tools/house key, food in the pockets

Howies have a tiny little pocket in one of the straps...big enough for a house key but thats about it. the original howies shorts also had a radio pocket, never gonna use it but i think its cool to have 🙂

What you need is the photo of me from the STW Swinley ride a few years ago. It confirms that this is in fact not a good look. It was toasty though, base layer + DH jersey and roubaix bibs.

Get a roadie jersey.

I've gone back to baggies over bibs and T-shirt/jersey + camelback, but that's because I've got fat and I'm ashamed of it.

Not sure if these are exactly what your after, but I have just ordered a pair to try:

I think they are more aimed at MTB as they have loops to connect thier baggy shorts too, but still might be worth a shot!
