Any recommendations for a good waterproof rain jacket/smock which is small enough to be packed into rear pocket of cycling jersey?

cheers

Altura Ergofit Race cape. Folds into nothing, is transparent, and most important, has taped seams. Roadie cut means my small fits tightly and does not billow.

Absolutely waterproof.

blow the budget and go Rapha... brilliant kit, works, fits, packs up nice.
or save the budget and don't.

Pearl Izumi Aero WxB. Simple, light, packable, extremely breathable, and fits more like a jersey due to the stretch fabric.

Montane featherlight. Only showerproof but anything heavier just makes you sweat.

I've been happy with this - very close fit - not flappy and doesn't let water in round the neck or cuffs. I run very warm but this seemed pretty breathable.

Ive just ordered a Castelli Squadra rain jacket for £30 from probikekit.
No idea of its effectiveness yet, will report back.

However, as i only want an emergency waterproof because i don't plan biggish days out if its raining then it looks like it will suit me fine.

Also, why are so many jackets black? Surely in wet, murky conditions you want your visibility increased???

Because rightly or wrongly, black is the best selling colour.

roadies dont ride in the rain they usually shelter under bus stops until it passes or their better half collects them.

Sportful Hot Pack 4/5. The 4 can be had for £40 as it's been replaced. Watch out for Italian sizing, though. I needed a large, and I'm pretty skinny!

endura helium is a good proper rain jacket, does roll up into a jersey pocket but its not a small pack size, waterproof, nice offset zip in rip-off rapha style which does elp it fit round the neck and not rub.

The endura race cape looks a good piece of kit on the hanger, not tried it but it claims to be 100% water proof but is thin and rolls tiny.

Endura ergofit gilet for drizzle.

Montane featherlite for anything heavier.

All suggestions above are very good. I like the Mavic Infinity as it has loads of zipped vents and looks really nice in the flesh (not so good in the photos though- it looks like rubber suit in the images but is actually a shiny patterned ripstop nylon). I like the vented secondary zip on the front flap.
