Just bought some lovely carbon 'aero' style bars for the road bike.

Question is how far should I bring the tape up around the bar?
A mate has similar bar and has them taped all the way, another has them about 40% along the flat tops. But the pros only do the drops.....

I only ever tape what I touch. as I never use the tops, I tape just past the shoulder.

If you believe the aero section has any effect you probably shouldn't be messing that up with tape, and if you just like the way it looks I'd guess you won't want to either. Just tape the round bits.

[form over function] Pop the hoods on in the correct position for you and tape what looks right, just enough to hide the mounting hardware for the hoods and not too much so it covers the aero section. [/form over function]

On a slightly more serious not that must look hideous taped all the way, I'd tape the bare minimum if it were me.

Mine are 'ergo' rather than 'aero' (3t tornovas, I think), but taped all the way as i don't like wearing gloves, and don't fancy wrestling with a slippy carbon bar up a 33% climb on a hot day!

I've used Easton Aero bars and tape them all the way. That aero section is a really comfy hand position.

I have taped mine just past the hoods. I find them very comfy without the tape on the flats.

The only picture I can find is on Instagram, not sure if the link will work?

Was thinking about aero bars to but I thought they wouldn't make any difference aero wise as there is a big lump of a person directly behind them. Or is that not the case? Look smart though.

Every leading edge has an aero impact so if you can get a free benefit then why not
Tape the round section only would be my choice

I bought mine as a bit of an experiment (cheap from Aliexpress, but quality seems very good). If there is an aero advantage it is pretty small, the main difference I have noticed is that the flat tops are more comfortable for resting your hands on when climbing, or just cruising along - a bit like Ergon grips on an mtb. Also as the bars are carbon they don't feel cold, whereas I think an unwrapped ali bar would being chilly on winter rides.

If you wrap with a figure of eight loop, you'll get half way along the tops. That's what I do.
