I currently have a full Ultegra groupset on my Giant TCR, which has a 24mm Press Fit BB. I'm in process of getting all the bits together to go over to SRAM ETap WiFli (11sp). The ETap ExoGram chainset is a BB30/PF30 axle, which im assuming means it fits a PressFit 30mm BB. So I have a couple of questions - 1. Would it be straight forward swap of BBs from a PF24 to PF30? - I have the tools to remove and install these but I don't know if there is incompatibility in the BB shell between the 2 diameters. 2.Can an Ultegra chainset and SRAM components work together if all 11 speed? It seems that the chains and cassettes are interchangeable (IIRC), any reason ETap shifters and mechs wouldn't be compatible of I left the Ultegra chainset on there and saved myself £350?

1) pf 30 and pf24 (bb86) are different shell sizes, one won't fit the other. I belive 30mm kits are available for bb86 shells but never tried one.

2) I don't know for certain but I'm pretty sure there should be no problem and that even if there is it will cost "nothing" to try it and find out

I've been using a Sugino X901D chainset with eTap for nearly 2 years with no problems and am in the process of fine tuning another installation of eTap to work with a Campag Chorus UltraTorque chainset.
I don't believe it should be a problem [edit] to use Ultegra cranks [IANABM}

Why don’t you just order the GXP version of the SRAM chainset if you want matchy matchy?

It’s possible to run bb30 in a standard shell but not advisable imo, service life is woeful.

I would keep your existing chainset, it'll work fine with a SRAM transmission no problem despite what manufacturers try to tell you. Likewise 11-speed chains and cassettes.
FYI your Giant takes a BB86/90 or 41mm did press-fit BB - whilst in theory you can fit a 30mm spindle crank, there's bugger-all room for the bearings i.e the bearing is only 5.5mm deep which means tiny rollers. Yes, they exist but don't expect them to last a long time, particularly if you ride in the rain a lot.

Ah right, so if I got the GXP version would that be a straight swap using the existing PF BB86 Bottom Bracket?

No, you'd need a gxp version

ffs, surely it shouldn't be this confusing!?!? So is there a version of the Red Chainset that is compatible with my current BB? If not, then is this the correct BB for my bike and a GXP version of the chainset…

eTap and ultegra chainset will be absolutely fine together. I run my TT bike with eTap and an original Dura Ace 7400 chainset thats about 24 years old! I'd leave well alone unless it is creaking.

Save your money and buy a pair of my spare blips that I don't use on the TT bike 😉

you need to get a GXP bottom bracket which has a 24mm drive side bearing and a 22mm non drive side. Shimano uses 24mm drive AND non drive. They both fit in an 86mm shell.

BB30 uses a 68mm shell and 30mm bearings. you can also however get BB386 which has 30mm bearing and 86mm shell.

clear now??

Any etap wifli users here suffer from what looks like a fairly common rear mech failure? I've come close to a purchase a few times but that put me off, especially given it must be close to end of life? Looks so good otherwise.

No issues with the rear mech on my etap but I’ve been having problems with the front mech flattening the battery when the bike’s just sitting in the garage.

Hopefully it’ll be replaced under warranty when I send it back.

Installed etap yesterday. 🙂

HRD Wifli with supplied rotors, and a pair of bar top blips. Using my Ultegra chain, 105 cassette and chainset. Took a lot longer than anticipated, particularly the brakes.

Still to ride it. 🙁
