I just switched bikes and have new bars which are just a regular curve (Ritchey calls its Ergo) on the drops, my old bars were straight on the drops if you know what I mean. My hand doesnt feel like it fits the curve.
I think I prefer the straight ones but interested to hear people perspectives, any pro/cons and if its just a question of personal preference/what you're used to?

Had "standard" sized drops on a roadbike that I sold. Recently decided to take an ebay punt on a roadbike for fitness. It has compact drops and I find them far more comfortable, happy to ride on the drops now as it's less of a stretch. I think it is a personal thing if you are not riding le tour.

I prefer the old style with a flat section on the drop, otherwise I feel like my hand is about to slide off.

I'm about to try some compact bars though which have a gentle bend.

i use FSA compact road bar, the wing on the top part really spreads the load on my hands

I would forget pro/cons and fashion , compact bars are current , ergo/ anatomic previous fashion ,and just go with what you feel comfortable with.

I guess its all related to your hand size, the straight bit of the drops on my old bars just seemed to fit.

Position wise though I'd like to be riding in the drops more and wonder if this is where a compact bar with a bit less of a drop comes in?

Or do all these <10mm changes make bugger all difference in practice?!
