Roadbike frameset...what to get?

I'm looking to get an updated roadbike to complement my existing 14 year old boardman. Ideally looking for something disk compatible and take 32c tyres. I can either get something second hand or look to build something up. Has anyone seen any decent deals around for a frame/fork that would be a good base for a build?

I'm 5'9 and ride a 56cm frame (boardman is a size L with 57cm top tube)

TIA 😊

I was doing this and wanted fairly light carbon but with proper mounts for mudguards and a rack (with a bit of commuting in mind).

Ended up buying a Dolan GXC which is technically a gravel frame but met all my requirements. Got it in the beautiful purple colour they do as an option and it’s light / fast / stiff etc.

Running 30c Conti gp5000s on it but could probably run 45c on there if you wanted to.

Mine’s built up with hunt 4seasons road wheels / Ultegra di2 / Hope RX4 brakes etc and it’s pretty comfortable as well as fast. Not too nose down which was what I wanted as my lower back isn’t what it once was.

Vs my last road frame (Cannondale Caad12 disc) it’s about the same weight, feels stiffer to sprint, takes rougher tarmac better in its stride etc. Still handles pretty well in the corners.

Have you ever had a propper bike fit, because that's a massive frame for someone your height.

If steel has any appeal for you then Brother have a sale on "Pink Clay" Stroma frames which is seriously tempting. And there's a new batch of Fairlight Strael frames due imminently, not cheap though, but potentially one of those frames you'd never want to get rid of as it's not like steel frames ever go in/out of fashion.

I love my Cannondale synapse high mod. Its a bit older so has disks and quick release Axels instead of through. That combined with buying a Sunday beast bike in the middle of a miserable spell in winter made it cheap ish second hand.

I was wary of putting tyres that didn't quite fit with any mud on so went for 30c. 32c would have been fine.

Something like this?

I'm the same height and ride a 54. A Mason Definition would fit the bill if budget allows. I love mine.

I'm slightly taller and ride (mostly) 53 and 54 cm. 56 is the size that a certain chain of shops in the UK recommended i buy.

It was absolutely massive.

(I also have a custom built team issue frame that is (nominally) a 51, but the top tube length of a 54)

First question is what sort of riding are you doing? Want mudguards for sloppy days? Want manual or electric shifting? Material is less important than geometry. Your Boardman is too large for you. A medium with 54-55 effective top tube will handle differently but for you better.

Most modern disk road bikes will take 30c tyres. You won’t need wider. I’d look for a used Enigma disk in titanium. A quick brush with 3M and some new decals and you have a new bike. You definitely need a 54 though.

Budget?

Ribble have a good few options if you are looking new.

Agree on sizing, I'm 6' with 6'4" arms and my 57 top tube is a good racey fit, fairly stretched but very comfy. I could possibly size down!

Same height and ride 52 or 54. You can pick up some bargains off ebay if you are prepared to wait

I'm 5ft 8in with a long torso, and ride a medium Boardman road bike (older and newer ones actually).

Do you already have the disc groupset? If not, I'd suggest picking up a used full bike as this will be much more economical. Or even a new one in the current discount frenzy.
