I'm considering replacing the 'stock' wheels that came on my Specialised Dolce for something lighter and faster. But, I don't really know anything about wheels, so I'm trying to shortcut hours of googling by asking the STW hivemind 🙂
What are your recommendations for upgraded wheels for someone who only weighs 47kg? Budget around £300ish.
What are the relative merits of 'hand built' compared to 'off the shelf'?
Most of what I've read so far seems to be about wheels which are robust enough for heavier guys, so have greater stiffness but this seems to then lead to a harsher ride. As I'm quite light, can I get away with having less 'rigid / stiff' wheels and therefore get less road vibration?

Handbuilts with velocity a23's or any other light but wide rim. Wide rims are where it's at for comfort/grip/less rolling resistance/ride quality and will allow you to run lower pressures.
Wheelsmith would be a good place to start. They will build something suitable to your weight and the kind of riding you do.
