Just bought a new road bike which is 11sp.

My old 9/10 speed bike has better wheels. Anyone know if i need anything to fit an 11sp cassette on the older wheel or is the hub incompatible?

Very much depends on the hub. If it's Shimano then no chance (assuming more than a couple of years old), if they're mavic then 11spd cassette will be fine (assuming wheels are no more than 10ish years old), other makes of hub you may be able to swap the freehub body for an 11spd one.

You can run 10 cogs from your 11 speed block with your old wheels with a spacer, just set the limit screws properly on your RD. Mavic hubs are fine. DT need a new freehub body.
