I'm looking for some 40mm deep carbon road wheels for my gravel bike, budget is up to £1k-1.2k (ideally inc tyres and discs) depending on the deals available. Looking at the usual suspects, Hunt, Scribe, JRA etc.. I'm not in a huge rush.
Is it worth hanging on for black Friday deals, do the usual wheel merchants discount at this time?, bigger discounts likely in Jan next year?
What does the STW crystal ball suggest?
I bought some DT Swiss wheels at a great price from @18bikes recently and they were extremely helpful.
https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Vel/50-RL-Carbon-Tubeless-Disc-Wheelset/QS28 were ~£360 when I bought my set just before Black Friday last year and they dropped a little bit more briefly sometime before Xmas.
Getting those Vel 50mm wheels for £350 was a steal. Love mine (could do with a slightly less noisy freehub).
Looking forward to riding them for the first time at some point, took a gamble on buying them as my first moderately aero wheels while I had covid, but it became the long variety and it felt a waste to use them while I've been struggling to average ~15mph on pretty flat short loops over 30-60mins. Thought about setting them up yesterday, but desperate to get out as it looked like the last dry day for the next week or so.
given what I've seen of hunt I wouldn't touch them
Thanks.
So no predictions of further discounting later this year then?
Knight Composites have had a sale on. Not sure if it is still going.
I have had them on my road bike since 2018, with zero problems. DT Swiss 240 hubs.
