Further to a previous thread I decided to replace my Schwalbe Luganos with some better road tyres so fitted conti gp4000 2’s this morning. Same size 25 /700c and still running with tubes. Main X Hunt wheels.
Slight fight to get them on but I’ve had worse - but when inflated all the beads snapped into place loudly like when you seat a tubeless mtb tyre.
Never had this before with a conventional tubed road tyre - and I don’t believe this tyre is meant to be tubeless compatible.
Is this normal?
I’ve had it it’s just good quality tyres 🙂
Yes, I find it reassuring
Oh ok, that’s good then. I’ve never really bought properly decent road tyres before and these are by far the most expensive wheels I’ve had before.
Previous best were rim braked Mavic Aksium wheels and some Michelin lithium’s i got in a sale for £15 each!
I think the snap is mostly down to the rim profile, plus a little bit of "tight-enough" in bead terms
Yes, down to the tubeless rim profile
The Hunt rims are definitely tubeless ready - they cane taped for tubeless - but from what I’ve read I’m going to wait a bit longer to see how road tubeless technology goes. Sounds like sealants aren’t brilliant at higher pressures and I can’t fit a much bigger tyre in the frame. 28’s (genuine 28’s) at the most. Running 25’s now.
Yes, the Hunt rims are a bit of PIA to get tyres onto. It's down to the tubeless configuration. The tyres do snap on with a loud bang. Nothing to worry about. Not sure that all the gremlins have been ironed out of road tubless tyres yet, so I'm resisting the temptation.

Certainly my experience. Tyre just went straight down same as a tubed tyre would and wouldn't pump back up.
