It’s that time of the year when the turbo gets dusted down and becomes a riding choice on cold, wet evenings. Looking at my kit, I could do with a couple of pairs of nice but relatively inexpensive padded Lycra shorts. Not baggy, not bibbed, just run of the mill shorts. Any recommendations from the STW ‘massive’?
Whilst I’m at it, my road helmet is also showing its age too. Not for wearing on the turbo but any good deals on mid range helmets?

Lidl have them in at the moment for about £7, they run small but otherwise are perfect for what you're asking.
But...... I find they roll down at the front due to the lack of a bib, I'd just buy a couple of pairs of bibs off ali-express.
Decathlon would probably be worth a look, I tend to use older (heading towards translucent) bibs on the Turbo now, the pad is still good but decency prevents me wearing them in public.
And/or cheapy jobs fom Decathlon/DHB bought in the now distant past that just don't tend to be much good for 2hr+ rides
But if I was shopping for Turbo Specific shorts now, I'd be looking at decathlon's cheapest first...

My threadbare, ancient, Rapha Cores can testify to this approach. I wouldn't/don't go cheap on turbo shorts, if there's anywhere I want/need a decent pad to help with comfort its when I'm sitting static on the bike
Something I'd recommend to anyone who struggles with saddle discomfort on a turbo, is one of those "beaky" Selle SMP saddle variants. An "Extra" variant made the world of difference for me.
If you haven't got something similar already, letting your turbo trainer move about a bit can help comfort a lot. Keen/rich people buy a rocker board; I cut up a £7 camping mat from Sports Direct and put a few layers under the body and legs of the turbo.
I know this is not really meeting the brief but I've a pair of Castelli Insider shorts that I bought during the pandemic for turbo duties. They're a bit thinner than my normal bibs and have lasted well. They size up small though.
I went Decathlon for a couple of pairs of my turbo shorts. I have a couple of pairs of old Altura liners too and a pair of bibs that get thrown into the rotation.

if that offer is open (and especially if the discount is on top of the already discounted prices) then I might avail myself of it - will message you
