My brand new Hutchinson fusion 11 storm rear tyre got a 6mm split on the top of the tread that sealant would not seal. I have put a big patch on the inside of the tyre ( don’t have a tyre boot ) and filled the split with super glue. Would you attempt to run it tubeless or accept the fact that it is a bodge and run a tube - typically run at 80psi. Thanks
I’d probably bin it and buy a new one, or save it for turbo use.
Could the Superglue break up in use, thought it was better to use a flexible glue.
I'd pump it up and see if it holds pressure but would be tempted to repair with a tyre boot or something more robust first before deciding whether to relegate it to tuned use.
Someone on here said they stitched the hole first then put a large patch on to stop it bulging.
Can you get a worm in? Or is it too big?
In my experience super glue does not work. I've tried a couple of times and both have been smaller than 6mm.
Is it a 6mm split internal? If yes, quite a risk of failure tube or tubeless imho.
Internal patch is fine in general for small holes IME but 6mm is a reasonable size - not sure about the superglue approach. If it was holding pressure and not misshapen or anything like that I think I'd ride it and just keep an eye on it.
Agree in general road tubeless is not the place for bodgery - too much speed and hard tarmac involved.
I wouldn’t. But if it has a good profile with a tube then I’d ride it. But don’t count on superglue to hold the tread together. And I don’t think that patches are structural. A boot would be. To be honest you are better off binning it. I had the same with a Pro One. It’s very annoying. I binned it. My cut was across the tyre.
