Up early in the car onto the M4 head West....
Forest of Dean & The Quantocks are doable in a day from the smoke .
Forest of Dean not that far off the M4 and worth a go, and if you can get as far over as Brechfa both routes there are great.
+1 for FoD, the main man-made XC trail is fast/flowy (at least in places :p ) and the DH tracks are all ridable on 'normal' bikes
