Mrs Beener has decided that she wants to put drop bars on her mtb.

She has ordered some 11sp Shimano RS505 shifters. She currently has 11sp Shimano M8000 xt rear mech and and 11-40 cassette.

She wants to use the same 11sp transmission but operated by the new 11sp road sti units. Is this possible? will she need an adapter to make the 11 sp sti work with 11sp mtb mech?

thanks

Beener

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work, check this out:

I think you either need one of those shiftmate roller thingies, or this with a Goatlink

Not sure about 11 speed, but I know you need a 9 speed mtb mech for 10 speed sti

Yup if wanting a clutch mech the only current option is the Ultegra RX 800 and maybe a longer hanger like the goatlink to work with the 40t.

Most 10spd sti shifters work with a 9spd mtb mech (to handle bigger sprockets) but still not a clutch mech. Beware also the newer 10sp Tiagra sti runs a specific mech with slighty different cable pull. It will work as above but needs a 1mm spacer between sprocket 3 and 4 to index.

The bigger issue is drop bars on a MTB. The top tube is too long...

(but I agree that she may well find the bike too long)

the Jtec 8 seems like it may work.

However thr bike uses full length cable outers, so im not sure how i would mount it....

Anyone use one?

If you use a Wolftooth Tanpan that will let you use road shifters with MTB rear mech's.

You use a Wolftooth Tanpan. It works great, I converted a mates 3x9 CX bike to 1X11 with 105 shifters & Mtb rear derailleur & 11-40 cassette. I ordered a couple in case other customers wanted this done on their bikes

how does the shift feel when using one of these adapters? Is it lighter / heavier than when using the correctly matched parts for example?
