Can anyone recommend insoles for road riding? I got the Northwave winter boots, but the insoles that came with them are pretty terrible. I have quite flat feet so like a bit of support. Preferably nothing over about 30 quid.
Cheers!
I got some sport insoles form Aldi, they fit a treat in my sidi's - the missus has some of the ones sports direct flog you and she loves those..
£30? really?
The Specialized insoles have always been good for me.
Hear lots of good things about eSoles too.
£30? really?
Is that expensive to you?? I paid 150 quid on insoles for my summer road shoes (Leather Foot Levelers) from my physio, so 30 is on the cheap side I'd think! Might seem steep but its made a huge difference to comfort and feel. Don't want anything too nasty.
Doesn't Aldi stuff fall apart anyway. 🙄
Thanks Mr Blobby I'll check out that link. My feet didn't agree with a pair of Spesh shoes I had years ago... funny lump in them.

not fallen apart yet, over a years worth of commuting and regular riding, infact my other more expensive shoes, that they don't fit as well have taken a back seat and I couldn't imagine anything would be more comfortable, like slippers.
yes £30 for insoles seems a lot to me.
I have superfeet yellows in my northwave winter boots, big improvement.

giro super natural in my nw boots ... heaven 🙂
Sorry, but £150 on insoles? Are they made of baby unicorn hair? I am staggered that is even a thing.
I also have slightly flat feet.
Formthotics arch support insoles have been great for me, swap them between my shoes for all rides.
I think it's the high density ones. And you need to go down a size or two, they come up way too big.
spenco iron man.
bought the gel insoles, for cobbles. not sure they're better: i'm definitely more aware of them...
I also thought 150 was too much at first, but they have put my leg and knee into correct alignment and sorted out the foot pain I usee to get, resulting in more efficient power transfer and less stress on my calves. Can't really put a price on that! Although could be argued that it's only a marginal gain.
Anyway, I'm not spending that much on my winter shoes, bit still want reasonably priced ones for flat feet.
I've tried a few with mixed results:
Specialized blue - These just plain work for me, stopped hotspots, helped my foot/knee alignment and I now run them in all my bike shoes
Super Feet Black - Custom moulded by a non-cycling podiatrist who did wonders with my ski boots. Not good results, put me out of alignment and gave me more pain. Waste of money for me though this may be more to do with the fitter.
Aldi gel - Did nothing, either good or bad. Offered a bit of padding I suppose.
Second for Superfeet, but need to select the right type for your feet. Money back gaurantee too, supposed to be with retailer, but they swapped a green pair for a blue pair for me no quibbles as I couldn't get to retailer easily. (different colours=different profile / support). Have helped me with plantar fasciitis and general discomfort, though you'd probably need custom made to correct alignment issues.
+1 for superfeet, I use them in all my running shoes, walking boots and cycling shoes. Not cheap to buy but they'll last you forever - 10+ years in mine and still going strong. One pair is cheaper than a single private physio session too
I fit the Sidas version, which is a full custom mould to your foot:

Sales talk aside, they're an excellent product also available at places like Cyclefit and various other reputable fitters/retailers.
I used them for a good 10 years before selling them; they do sort out a lot of tracking/foot issues without the need for further intervention.
Thanks. I'll look at them all but looks like Superfeet are a winner so far. What colours should I be looking at for flat feet? Are they cycling specific?
So looks like yellow are the best for flat feet?
I have the eSoles and like them a lot.
Came with some Bonty RXL's that have long since gone.
My Fizik R1 shoes came with some fancy thermal setting insoles. These were very good for me, unlike the shoes themselves! The specialised wedged insoles are pretty nice too, but I seem to be able to absorb positional changes, so as long as my knees don't actually bang the top tube, any insoles seem fine. For hotspots, check your cleat position and sole stiffness.
