Does anyone have any feedback on the above combination?  I'm looking for reliability, no rubbing, and not excessive lever throw.

I've had pretty frustrating experience with ultegra calipers, namely brake shriek and poor performance due to possibly leaky seals.  I then switched to Hope RX4+ calipers, but I've struggled with those too.  Non-retracting pistons, narrow clearances and chronic brake rub have been problematic.  I had them thoroughly serviced which worked for a while, but it's got really bad again and I'm losing the will to persist.

On my other road bike I have ultegra levers and XT 2-pot calipers (because post mount) which have been absolutely trouble free for many many thousands of ks.  So it's not just me being fussy!  Also, everything set-up by highly reputable workshop who I trust 100%.

If I don't go Magura I'd go Ultegra again, but that carries the risk of "fool me twice" etc.

Advice greatly appreciated!

Very happy with mine on the MTB (XT and MT5), slightly thicker discs seem less susceptible to running out of true.

@scruffythefirst yeah although the roadies seem to run it with thin Shimano rotors. I can see how that would gives more clearance and less rubbing if magura are also excellent at retraction, but would it not also imply a lot of dead lever throw?

I'll maybe just have to roll the dice.

Almost no dead throw at the lever, the magura disc and pads don't have a lot of clearance but seem to behave once I'd fixed the banjo leak.
