I quite fancy putting drop bars on my Inbred 26. Could I use road shifters with SLX f+r mechs or would I need road mechs? If I can, what shifters would you recommend?
All shimano stuff is bi-shiftual. Mtn gears with road shifters is cool.
if it's 9 speed stuff the rear is fine, front road shifters pull about 1/3 less cable but it can be overcome with a bit of modding. 10 speed road and mtb are very different front and rear
As the Inbred already has a relatively long top tube, you may struggle to get something that is actually comfortable to ride.
Assuming your SLX is 9-speed, then a set of 9-speed STIs will work with your current rear mech but you might struggle to get the front mech working.
fitting some inline cable adjusters helps like thesefront road shifters pull about 1/3 less cable but it can be overcome with a bit of modding

also if you are crap at setting up front mechs then you will get good as require a bit of patience but does work - if you are a fan of super slick shifting it might not be for you
edit and inline adjusters won't work with some newer sti's that route both gear and brake cable under the handle bar tape
