I'm thinking of trying a short-nosed saddle on my Broken Road (a fairly relaxed XC bike) as I'm a huge fan of them on road bikes. I've got a Spesh power saddle on my road bike at the moment so I can swap that over to try it for a few rides, but I have a couple of questions for anyone with experience of doing something similar:
- The saddle shouldn't break apart into a million shards just cos it's on an MTB should it? It's an expensive saddle and I don't want to break it.
- Anything clever I should do with positioning the saddle, or should I just plonk it in roughly the same place as the MTB saddle and go from there?

Ever since finding that a Fizik Aliante is just the right shape for me, I've always ridden one on every bike (its a dedicated road saddle). I've even run the superlight carbon fibre shell and braided rail version on my XC bike. I wouldn't think of changing now as I just find it so comfortable.
TLDR: It'll be absolutely fine, crack on.
As above itll probably be ok, but Fizik do an offroad saddle now that is almost identical called terra argo, might be worth a look.
I've been using superlight carbon-railed 4ZA saddles road saddles on road, CX and MTB for years with no dramas.
Similar 'shaped' saddles on all bikes. None specifically marketed as MTB.
I use a Bontrager Aeolus which is a similar idea. Half of the Trek Factory Racing Team do too so it can't be such a daft idea 🙂
Use whatever saddle works best and don't over think it 🙂
It is about pelvis angle and/or saddle tilt, if you can get them to match they will be fine.

I used to race XC on Selle Italia SLR saddles with Ti rails - would regularly snap the rails, gave up in the end after breaking the third one in a year!
I've never given this Amy thought - swap saddles around bikes without problem
Surely it's compulsory to use XC, Enduro, Gravel, Road, eBike, cyclocross, tandem, unicycle specific saddles
I use carbon San Marco road saddles on my MTB's as they are the perfect fit for me, I've never given it any thought I was just happy to find a saddle that works for me, the only saddle that I have broken was a MTB one.
Do you have a different arse for mountain biking?
Nose it down a bit if on your FS, as sag changes effective saddle angle when seated.

If you don't want to break your spesh saddle google EC90 saddle. It's a copy, same shape, available for £20-25 depending on source. I have one (now on my turbo bike) which I used to try before buying my 'proper' power saddle for my road bike.
I've recently moved to an Ergon on my mtb, it's a bit shorter than the Fizik it replaced.
My ANVL saddle that arrived on my 2015 TR Scout is the comfiest saddle I have tried.
I have one for each bike now and a spare just in case, one of which is my Kona Jake CX / road / commuter.

You certainly need one of these. And it's not going to work too well on your Pinarello
The only obvious point is that you generally sit in quite a different position on a road bike. Handlebar to saddle heights will be different so this might not make the comfort transferable. Most above don't seem to have an issue, but you could.
