Hi all

Anyone know of a solution for a set of guards for my Focus Mares Al?

Front is the issue. Disc brakes, No fork mounts, no hole in crown and the axle is 12mm bolt through so those adapters that give you a mount won’t for either.

Seems bizarre that it has fender holes on the rear but absolutely nothing on the front?

I did buy it for cross/ light off road but I want to use it as a winter road bike now if feasible to get some proper guards for a group ride.

Cheers

I have the same issue. I bought a set of Raceblade XL Pros. Rear is ok, but ended up taking the front of as it was so floppy on my chunky carbon forks.

Some cunning dremeling of a slot on either side of the guard and use zip ties around either shoulder of the fork crown?

Another vote for Raceblade XL. I have them on my CX. They're great.

Cheers guys. Presumably these be the rear half coverage ones that tie on to the fork?

Anyone got 35mm tyres underneath?

cheers

I've crud race 3s on my Lynskey, they say up too 32mm but I've 28mm and its pretty tight at the back although no problems with the front, only downside is they've these peculiar stickle brick type patches you stick too stay/fork then the other half  attaches too guard ,I found that adding a zip tie solved any problems arising from  vibration, there not too bad looking either considering.

P-clips and a star fangled nut in the bottom of the steerer

No hole in the bottom of the steerer unfortunately.

I’ll give the raceblades a go. At least they come off easy so can whip them off when it’s not as wet.

cheer

I thought they always had a hole in the bottom of the steerer? It's how the assemble it, right? As in they knock a slightly tapered steel or alu tube into the bottom of the crown? I've never had a carbon steerer though. Is that what it is?

I use good old SKS things. Race blades etc. don't give full coverage i.e. enough to keep your feet clean, stop spray coming over the front and covering the rider behind you.

My Pickenflick has similar forks with no holes. I use some mounts that incorporate the QR at the front  (SKS I think) and a big bit of industrial spec Velcro under the fork crown. That doesn't last for ever though.  My guards go on about October and come off at Easter. The bike is used about 3 times a week throughout the winter and the Velcro has started to get a bit less sticky after 4 winters.
