I know its not about the looks, but I only have one road bike at the moment, an aero bike, so struggling with the concept of big ugly alloy mud guards for winter riding, but looking at getting some sort!
Any suggestions? Cheers.
I've just ordered some PDW Full Metal Fenders City for my Roadrat, I think they are nice looking as they get (bamboo aside).
I doubt you'll have many options with the lack of clearance/bosses your frame is likely to have.
Time for N+1.
I missed the aero bike bit. SKS Race Blade Long 2 are one of very few options; but they look crap.
They all look crap, but you'll be grateful for them keeping the water out on colder days!
As above Raceblade Longs are good if you have limited clearance, thread on here last week about them being hard to track down at the moment.
If looks matter, Crud Road Racers are reasonably invisible if you squint. The trade off is that being a compromise, they're not the easiest to get on with, prone to rubbing, flimsy mounts. That said, no problems on 2 of my bikes with 23c tyres and no clearance.
You have an aero bike and are worrying about mudguards looking crap?
+1 for Crud Road Racers. They worked fine for 2 winters, till I smashed the front one trying to track stand then ripping it off with my foot. The rear one is still going strong (4 winters).
Get a new bike.
Whatever guards come attached to the proper winter hack you buy/cobble up and are proud of its fugly looks.
It's going to be crud road racers for me again too this winter, relatively minimal, relatively light, if you can put up with the wobbles, rattles and minor rubbing they do the intended job and are cheaper than most other options...
Closest you're going to get to a "good looking" mudguard IMO, but then looks ain't everything are they...
Blimey, I've been told I'm shite at mechanical stuff, but my Cruds never rattle or rub!

Get you...
Unfortunately I don't ride exclusively on billiard table smooth surfaces, they're as bendy as a bendy thing, they're going to contact the wheels from time to time.
Mechanical prowess has very little to do with it.
Oh, sorry, I didn't realise you'd done my commute.

Yeah, sometimes you need to adjust the little placcy holders on the forks or stays, but hardly ever. They're just not really that bendy now are they.
