Kind gentlefolk of STW, I'm after a recommendation for a light road bike frame and wheelset.

I recently built up a Shand Stooshie to replace a Surly Straggler.  The Shand has fairly relaxed geometry so it's comfortable and is a nice build, at around 9.3kg with 28c tyres and mudguards.  It's what I'm using for extended B-road commutes and longer road runs where comfort is important.

However, I'm also doing a lot of flat, smooth and traffic-free commutes where I fancy something lighter with steeper road geometry.  My Straggler will donate its 105 running gear (until it wears out) and decent finishing kit.  I'm not bothered about discs, as I already have R8020 Ultegra hydros on the Shand.

I don't really have a budget but don't want to go wild without having had this type of bike for a while... I was thinking of an alloy frame along the lines of a CAAD12, Bowman Palace R or Trek Emonda ALR - possibly with Hunt Race Aero wheels or similar.  It looks like this sort of setup would squeeze comfortably under 8kg with tubeless.

Any other recommendations or thoughts?  🙂

Non disc road bikes and frames are silly cheap second hand at the moment you can get a super six evo nano for not too much.

You may be over thinking/googling this, just walk into a bike shop and buy a road bike/frame.(you may find a bike is more cost effective).

Base your choice on it having the correct angles, a nice paint job and being within budget.

I was going to suggest a caad 12 with zondas. That's what I have and it's a brilliantly light and fast bike. Not sure if it'll be the cheapest option as caad 12 frames are pretty popular still but it'd be worth it.

I have a Supersix Evo . Fantastic bike. Quick, sharp handling but still surprisingly compliant.

i looked at buying secondhand caad or Supersix and there wasn’t much price difference.

Ened up buying a Supersix Evo ultegra new for £1250 instead.
