was wondering how you carry tools, food e.t.c.i always carry a rucksack on my mountain bike, but don't really see many road cyclists wearing backpacks.so how do you carry it all? especially as lots of you do long rides.sorry to sound stupid but do you have special acme pockets in your racing tops 🙂
Pump on frame
Minitool, tube CO2 in saddle pack
Keys, mobile, snack in jacket pocket
Bottles on frame
For longer rides I use a bar bag and/or rack bag
do you have special acme pockets in your racing tops
yes, basically. "proper" jersies have 3 big, really pretty stretchy pockets in which lots of food, waterproofs, tools etc can be stuffed
Personally I prefer to have multi tool and 2x tubes in a small saddle bag, a small pump attached to frame. Pockets for food/ keys/ money/ phone/ CO2 and waterproof/ gilet
Personally
2tubes
High pressure mini pump (more reliable than CO2)
2 plastic levers
Crank Bros Tool
3 Gels (2normal, 1 caffiene based)
Money
Credit Card
Mobile
LE Col Gillet
Long rides Electrolyte Tabs (incase i need to mix more water)
All goes into 2 back pockets with loads of room to spare.
Keep sharp and / or pointy hard thing out of pockets.
The standard answer is road cyclists don't carry the kitchen sink so don't need a 55 litre rucsac to carry everything.
Pump & 2 waterbottles on frame. 2 tubes, tyre lever, mini tool, patches in middle pocket. Other 2 pockets depend on length of ride/weather conditions but some combination of jacket/gilet/food/cash/camera.
small saddle bag for tools/ pump.
bottles for water.
pockets for money/ phone keys/ food.
Tube, multitool and puncture kit in Cannondale Seedpod; wallet, keys and phone in Rickshaw Pipsqueak; pump and bottle on frame; snack in jersey pocket.
Not a fan of weighed-down pockets or of having keys etc in anything open.
Pretty much as above. Pump fits in my saddle bag along with other hard things like multitool, CO2 canister, keys, phone. Soft stuff goes in my pockets like small jacket, tubes if not in saddle bag, food, map. I try to keep things out of my pockets that would hurt if I landed on them in an accident.
Saddle bag is a topeak small one. I have a large one too that I use on the mountain bike for long races as I carry a few extra bits and the tubes are larger so don't fit in the small one.
My longest ride has been 9 hours. I needed to stop for extra water but everything else I managed to carry. For hot long rides where picking up water isn't easy I don't take a jacket but do start with an extra bottle in a pocket.
Jersey pockets, all that is needed.
Bottle in a pocket makes me boggle muchly.
I asked a similar thing the other week OP, might be some helpful tips in there:

If I were a road cyclist I'd tow my stuff behind me suspended from a helium-filled balloon tied to the seat post
Pump on frame, tools and tubes in saddlebag, phone, keys etc in jersey pocket.
For longer runs I take my Roadrat instead as it's got a rack so can take a pannier.
I use a massive ruck sack with pans hanging off it.
Little Topeak Micro saddlebag for tools, tube, levers, spare CO2.
Small minipump/CO2 inflator on frame by bottle cage.
Phone, cash, keys, food, armwarmers/gilet/waterproof, etc in back pockets.
tbh, it could probably all fit in back pockets but I got the saddlebag for tri races (I'm not at the sharp end of the field so I'd rather fix a flat than walk home!) so may as well use it.
Seatpack (Ortlieb micro) contains tube, levers, patches, multi tool, phone and wallet. Pump and liquids on the frame, food in pockets.
in the world of mountain biking, it seems acceptable to start a ride with a bike that doesn't really work.
(loose headset, rusty chain, gears not working properly, etc.)
so mountain bikers need to carry all sorts of crap with them to bodge their bikes round the ride.
in the world of road riding, it seem to be the widely held opinion that the time and place for all this faffing is at home.
so roadies don't need to carry as much crap with them.
water, tube or 2, pump or something, and a fiver for a coffee+cake, is all i've ever needed.
bottle in cage, the rest goes in a little saddle bag.
easy.
I don't like a lot in my pockets.
A bottle with a lid. A water bottle in the second cage.

There are longer ones as well. Takes tyre levers, multi tool, spare tube, repair kit etc. Just leave on bike. Also pump with attachment on bottle cage.
All stays on bike so just need water & food, keys etc to remember.
carry co2, tube, multi-tool, tyre lever in wide mouth bottle on bike, bottle in other cage, food and fiver in jersey pocket. House key gets stashed at home and never take my mobile unless out by myself. Ipod in back pocket as well. 1 bottle genrally does me 3-4 hours, any longer and i'll stop at shop and fill up
Just ride with people who carry loads of stuff....
I take pump, 1 or 2 tubes, multi tool and levers.
Co2 minipump with cartridge wedged in seatpost / seat tube, tyre levers stuffed in end of handlebars, minitool and other gubbins in pockets
Very small saddle bag and phone, key, debit card in zipped back pocket. Pump in middle pocket and any food or spare clothes, such as arm warmers, in back pockets.
