You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
After a bad cycling accident (head first collision with a car that pulled out in front of me), I've been unable to ride for 4 months due to extensive head and facial injuries.
The hospital physio has given me the OK to try about 15 min / day in the turbo. However, although the physio is great for specific neck injuries, she isn't really a specialist on cycling.
I'd like to return to competitive endurance cycling in the mountains, but the gap between my current physical abilities and my previous level is substantial. So I'm considering whether if would be beneficial to have a coach to help with a staged approach to recovery and build back up my strength and endurance.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of Rehab Coaches for cycling? (Especially with a focus on endurance riding). Any recommendations or advice much appreciated- thanks 😊
You could get in touch wit a local road club and find out if they have any Level 2 or 3 Road Coaches. They likely either will, or will know of some. BC Level 2 can look at techniques, skills, general coaching. Need to have Level 3 to get into individual tailored plans, personal mindset training etc.
Sue,
I could help with that. I'm a level 3 Road and Time Trial Coach and have worked with a wide range of riders.
Email in profile if you are interested.
Mark.
Me too,
I'd say get a coach because in your situation they will (hopefully) restrain your enthusiasm to get back too quickly! The BC coaching does not specifically mention rehabilitation.
Endurance training is all about time in the saddle. Position may need to change for a while as your neck gets used to riding again.
BTW the coaching fees can be recovered from the insurance of the driver if at fault (likely). When I had my accident I claimed for my recumbent trike and it was reimbursed! As was the physio and two operations on my wrist.
