They fall off, hit the road and slide along, then just stand there with their arm up and wait for another bike.

They must have more rubber in them than a tyre to just bounce backup.

It's cos they're cyclists not footballers that makes them do that!

Better than what they used to put in?

Pro road cyclists are hard as nails. They love to suffer. Case in point is Tyler Hamilton. Had a crash on the 5th stage of the 2002 Giro and broke his shoulder. Rather than phoning home and crying to mummy (which I would have done ) he carried on and finished the race in 2nd place. He ground his teeth so hard to mask the pain that he allegedly had to have 11 of them capped or replaced after the race.

And seemingly accident prone, the next year on the first stage of the TdF he broke his collarbone. But again he didn't drop out, instead finishing the tour and even won stage 16 with a 142km solo breakaway.

And of course it would not be correct to talk about suffering without mentioning Hoogerland's detour into a barbed fence on stage 9 of the 2011 Tour.

32 stitches later he continued on the race. And if you don't have a particularly sensitive disposition then search google images for 'hoogerland' - it's eye watering!

Criterium International is on EuroSport 2 at the moment, it's ace! Final 5km live now, won't spoil it for those who want to watch later but this is a gripping finale!

Well, the pros do. As for your average MAMIL dentist riding around in the surrey hills in their splitting at the seems assos - I don't see much suffering there 😉

Perhaps those of them that are smacked up to the eyeballs can't feel the pain.

Is this the same Tyler Hamilton who is the subject of a book about how he was doped to the eyeballs? Oh it is? Respect diminished.
