I currently run Shimano M8000 2x11 groupset with 11-42 cassette and 38-28 chainrings.
I would like to have smaller caps between top end sprockets(currently 11-13-15-17). So I think I need road cassette like 11-32 or 11-34 - they typically are 11-12-13-14 at the top end.

Question: which road cassette works with my current groupset? For example from Shimano or SRAM?

There's a new Ultegra 11-34 option which has the same base width as an 11 spd MTB/10 spd road cassette, so will work on an MTB freehub. In stock at Madison - part no CSHG800134.

No compatibility between shimano road and 11 speed mtb. Not sure about sram but I doubt it.

That's generally the case except with the new wide spread Ultegra mentioned above.

This is tricky because road cassettes are wider than MTB cassettes and won't fit on your freehub. MTB cassettes use the space created between the spokes and the large 40+ teeth cogs to accommodate the large sprockets; Road cassettes have a much smaller large sprocket so there is less room between the sprocket and the spokes.
I read that there is one 11 speed cassette in the newest Ultegra group that will fit on the narrower MTB freehub. Maybe 11-32.

Is my post invisible? 😉

CSHG800134.

Ultegra level 11 spd 11-34 cassette that fits on an MTB freehub body as the last sprocket is dished as on 11-40/11-42/11-46 cassettes. Requires 10/11 speed spacer (supplied) to work on 11 spd road freehub.

U ok hun? 😉

Im interested in that cassette but as I swap wheels it might cause me to have to adjust the mech a fair bit whenever I do

Apparently there's a new 11 speed Ultegra cassette in 11-34 that fits a 10 speed MTB freehub body. I think the part number is CSHG800134.

Nope, Hence the winky.

Anyhoo, before we disappear down the emoticon rabbit hole... are you by chance running this cassette at the moment?

Nope - just noted it with interest like you.

Shouldn't need more than a bit of b-tension adjustment between this and MTB spreads though, so don't see swapping being a big deal?

As mentioned above swapping should be fine in terms of shifting.
The spacing between sprockets is the same between road and mtb 11 spd; it's just the freehub width that changes (hence the spacer included with sillyoldman's ultegra cassette).

I run a sram 11-36 11spd road cassette on my mtb, but machine down the carrier of the larger sprockets so that it fits my mtb freehub.

If swapping between 11-34 and 11-42/46 then you might need to compromise on chain length along with adjusting b-tension?

Looks like the Ultegra 11-34 (part no as above 🙂 ) won't do what you want. The smaller sprockets are the same as the XT 11-42 from 11 to 21.

sell some parts off and drop down to 10 speed XT with 11-32 instead? 🙂

You are only losing the 13s gear....

11-32: 11-12-14-16-18-20-22-25-28-32

this isn't entirely a serious suggestion
