So is it less of a concern to ride your "best" Carbon road disc brake wheels in the winter than it is with a rim brake?
I'm guessing its only water and dirt ingress into the hub bearings to worry about... right?
You've still got all of the salt on the road to corrode your nipples and potholes filled with water to smash the rims.
Yea but you'll be going faster so less time on the road = less chance of damage.

I don’t own any non carbon road or gravel wheels anymore as I have discs on everything. Having said that my ‘rough’ wheels are still Hope RS hubs on LB rims, I did build them with brass nipples though. I wouldn’t run calliper carbon rims in winter filth.
Salt eating the nipples and damaging the hub finish is more of a concern than water/dirt ingress in the bearings.
Ok thanks, so I'm not going mad. Seems a pair of sales wheels / Hunt all seasons rinsed off after a winter ride is the order of the day.
I run my road bike all year. It is a carbon frame that can take full length mud guards, SRAM force/red mix groupset and Roval CLX 50 carbon wheels.
I just keep an eye on the nipples for corrosion. If they start to go, I'll change to brass nipples.
Front wheel installed on the turbo for the aero gains. 😉

Just clean & dry them after every ride, another thing I've done is apply ceramic coating spray to the rims, they stay rather clean.
I don't do enough winter road riding to bother with a winter bike or wheels any more, but I'd probably get a set if I did.
If only to have the slightly tougher tyres set up on.
Grit and salt in derailleur bits and bottom bracket…maybe not a big deal for some but it’s something I’d rather avoid as I have an older bike to run through the shitter months…even if it does have eTap and rim brakes!
I run my best bike a wheels all year. Granted they are not mega money but probably many many times what the average normal person would consider paying for a bike (base spec Tarmac and some recently acquired black Friday VEL carbons wheels from Sigma). As Chakaping said, I don't do enough miles in either season to warrant specific bikes and I'd rather enjoy it and wear it out than save it for best and never ride it
Wait, Shimano 12sp cassette's fit an 11sp hub don't they?
I don't ride my road bikes in winter as they can't take mudguards and I can't be fagged messing about with Raceblades and suchlike.
I don't have carbon wheels on my other bikes and ride a lot of miles. Keeping up with wheel and BB bearing changes/maintenance is (almost) a full time job.
another thing I’ve done is apply ceramic coating spray to the rims, they stay rather clean.
I use Finish Line Protectant Wax/Polish, does the same job. Works really well, water just beads off the rim and a quick wipe down after a ride is all that's needed.
Winter bike for winter riding, without the carbon wheels. That’s dry summer. And no I do not run discs. I also don’t run a derailleur in winter either.
You can of course rinse off the bike after every ride.
Yeah I was googling.... in which case the DT Gravel wheels I just put in the classified will suit the purpose, I'd better withdraw them!
