same as calipers? or same as Vs, for cable pull?

or perhaps neither? for all i know.

i do know eg BB7s are not the same disc calipers between road and mtb. what's the difference?

i could trawl through sheldon brown etc, but i like to ask on here  : )

Same as calipers. Some newer ones pull more cable than the older ones, but they should all work to some extent with road disc calipers.

MTB disc calipers are based on v brake lever pull.

Road disc calipers are based on road brake lever pull which is different.

You can use MTB calipers with road levers and vice versa but the bite point is all wrong so best avoided.

BB7 are easier to set up as you can adjust both pads in set up.

BB7r have a different "leverage" ratio to mtb ones - pads move further per mm of cable pulled (the pitch of the internal grooves is different)

as above, you can use MTB calipers with road levers but you'll be forever readjusting as the bite point will be uncomfortably close to the bars and with little margin for error
