Need a road double road boost chainset. This is a normal road chainset that's 3mm extra out on either side.
The obvious and common choice is raceface ride .....but for many reasons I'd rather use it as a balance bike than have a raceface crank on my bike again.
But do I have any other option. Not much out there specified as "road boost" which In it's self is a worry for the frame sets lifespan,.....
Won't GRX have the same chainline?
I've heard of Roadboost being used by Salsa to explain their pairing of MTB boost cranks and hubs with road groupsets and Focus using it to describe the utterly pointless 12x110 axle. Who is guilty for using it for widened Road cranks?
Great to have a named standard that isn't in anyway standard! 🤣
MTB boost cranks
MTB boost cranks mostly 1by or with tiny chainring options.
Well scotroutes that's kinda my question. The grx is the obvious one....but trying to find out what road boost actually is is like getting blood out of a stone......
It's a standard that means so much to so many people it seems
So it is a salsa Johnny storm gets it.
It uses an MTB chainset with custom large rings to give 46/30t
A grx is 2.5mm extra each side over a road chainset .
An MTB chainset is the 3mm extra.... But stock with small chain rings
Grx would likely fit at a half mm a side..........but alot of money to find out it doesn't when the chain starts sucking into the stay .....
Suspect GRX would work, but Rotor’s modular approach is worth a thought. Either road/gravel arms or MTB arms mounted to an MTB Boost axle, and some DM 2x gravel rings, or a 4 arm spider and gravel rings. Road/gravel arms offered in 24 or 30mm, but MTB Boost axle only offered in 30mm AFAIK.
What happened with your cranks? I've got the Apex 1x Cutty with RF 1x cranks and no hassles so far...
My local shop has my size frame set. (And a grx600 that's too small )
I have a number of changes I would want over a grx600 spec from stuff I already have and stuff I've already found handy from my current bike that the cutthroat doesn't come with.
So with the changes I want barring the crank concerns (Id really rather not have raceface again if I can avoid it) it's possible that a black frame set in my size could be built up how id want it for around the same price....and not getting left with a bunch of bits i don't want
Good shout on rotor.
Anyone know anyone running grx double.on a current gen cutthroat ?
FSA do some modular kit too based on a regular shimano style 24mm axle.
You might be able to pair an MTB crank arm with a suitable roadie spider and chainrings?
Found a number of folk saying grx won't go on a V2 cutthroat.
Plenty of folk running xt and xtr 1* is no issue.
Easton are the only ones making rings for the raceface ride set up on the full build cutthroats which is a concern for the future - I'd have thought I'd have seen more folk looking for options.
Could probably live with a 44t(common)big ring but the front mech mount is pretty restrictive without hacking it up to drop the front mech.....and the 48t off a touring triple chainset is too big .
Off to look at TA specialities.
So TA specialities do rings to suit....that's a boon
Looks like in that case I can use any Shimano MTB chainset(well any numbered equivalent oem model that has 104/4bolt not the named ones which have the 110 assymetric bolt)
