2 years ago I built up my first “proper” drop bar build in the form of a Sonder Camino. I used it initially as it was designed with a mix of road and off road.

I’ve recently upgraded a few bits on it; Rival gearing, Hope 20Five wheels, 3T controls - all fairly budget with a view to make it more “roady” as I don’t take it off road now. I’ve not weighed it, and I appreciate weight isn’t everything, but it’s no lightweight.

Sooooooo do I stick with it as is, as it’ll be diminishing returns based on my current fitness etc or …….. new frame and fork or save and go full bike with full commitment to it being a road bike.

Thoughts.

Depends on how much money you want to throw at it tbf.

My road bike is similar spec to yours, the only improvement/difference I've made is getting rid of the rival chainset and fitting a 105 (gxp Vs HT2).

It doesn't hold me back on the club run and being able to fit 30c tyres and full mudguards make me everyone's friend when it's wet.

Recently upgraded from an original London Rd to an expensive carbon frame/fork with bolt thru/routing for Di2 etc. It looks sexier, rattles more and after 3 rides can't tell if it's better or not. Did I say it looks sexier?

My rival carbon CX bike comes in at about 8.5kg naked. At a guess I'd say you are a couple of kilos over that.

A decent road bike would feel faster. You could get one aimed at "endurance" so it would probably have space for 28 or 32mm tyres (which would let you ride the odd rough path) or mudguards in winter.

See what is actually available, how much that costs and then think what you might get for yours?

Take a look at Vitus on wiggle, seem to have stock and I really rate them.

See if you can find a Specialized Allez or similar second hand. Fast and dependable bikes that are a reasonable price to see how you like it.

Could always keep the other bike as a winter bike if finances allow.
