After 6 months I’m about to get the old sealant out of my trees and add new. Whilst I’m doing that I though I swap the front and rear tyres as the back are more worn. Anyone else do that or got horror stories?

Why are you taking the old sealant out?

The back usually wears in with a nice flat section across the middle, wouldn't fancy putting that on the front.

An old roadie mate of mine does this, but not in the way I suspect you're thinking. When his back wears out he puts the current front on back and a new tyre on the front.

I rotate as mentioned above: rear tyre worn out -> front on rear -> new front tyre.

Getting a front puncture when you’re going fast on the road is much scarier than a rear puncture

See! I knew someone who have the answer. Ta. I’m taking the dried o,d sealant out to reduce weight when adding the new. Just seems sensible. Any that is still liquid will be reused.

Yikes, hadn't thought about the puncture issue. I've swapped front to rear and rear to front before and had no issues for several hundred kilometres since, but won't do it in future, front tyre to rear, new front tyre from now on!

I think putting the front on the back makes sense for tubed but maybe not for tubeless. Road tubeless is so much more sensitive than mtb so once the tyre is on and sealed leave it alone - fix punctures if need be using anchovies and top up sealant every 3 months through the valve with core removed. Stretched beads and dried sealant can make a tyre that went up easy first time become a nightmare second time round and tyres that were a nightmare first time I just don’t want to attempt twice

Just replace the back. I’ve rotated and didn’t notice much difference but it’s a zero sum game. You need two rears for every front. A flattened front will puncture more often.

I've swapped front to back with no issues but TiRed is right, it's only putting off buying two tyres later, as opposed to one now and one later.
