Just got a cheapish road bike, not liking the saddle.

It seems very flat and doesn't flare up for cheek support.

I have a charge spoon on one bike and a Madison flux on the other, essentially the same but the flux has more padding.

Do folks use this type on road bikes or do they go for this flatter style?

I know its a personal preference thing.

Just use whatever fits best.
If you've a style you like on your mtb just get the same and put it on your road bike?

Yeah, will probably get another Spoon, just wondered if it was worth looking more at the flatter type for road use

It depends if you ride mostly on the bar tops or hoods or down in the drops.
Fizik do 3 saddle types the Arione which is flat, Aliante for those that are less flexible and ride mostly upright and the Antares which is somewhere in between. Fabric offer different shapes wit their scoop.

I ride a Fizik Arione on my road bike, but my bum seems to get on with flat saddles, I have Fizik Tundra II's on my MTB's

I have the Arione in my road bike. When I've read the Fizik blurb I'm wouldn't describe myself as a snake more a bull but I've done 100 miles on it before and it seem to work.Until recently I had a Gobi on my mtb but now have the tundra 2. The Gobi is more yielding but weirdly I don't find the Tundra uncomfortable.

Another road-riding Arione owner here. It's a nice saddle. 🙂

I also ride a Fizik Gobi on each of my MTB and town / touring bikes.

I'm really impressed with my Fabric Scoop Flat. Mine is the Race model which is over £50 but I think the scoop flat range starts at about £35. Always used the Spoon and then the Scoop on my mountain bikes but much prefer a flatter narrower saddle on the road bike.

I use the Madison prime on my road bikes, cheap as chips on eBay if you wanted to try it.

Spoons on a couple of road bikes and a Spech Ronin on my best bike, the spoons are comfier the ronin looks the part.

edit: rememnered why I dont have a third spoon, the material on the most recent one was a flat without perforations and you couldnt move around on it so swapped it for the ronin.

Arione long and flat saddle here too. Aliante has more of a scoop and better suited to a body angle of 45 degrees or more.

My favourite is probably the original Flite TI. Small scoop but long as well. Now reissued. My two are both nearly 20 yrs old.

In general, padding is bad and some cheaper saddles have more.

All very personal but when you find one that fits it will feel like an old pair of shoes.

In "recommend what you run" fashion may I suggest the Brooks Cambium C17? Expensive, heavy, but lovely and comfortable. Like really comfortable.

Fat,29er,CX & road bike all have a spoon. Fits my arse shape nicely with minimal discomfort over 100 mile rides too. Go with what your arse likes
