On my old road bike, I have Campag Centaur 10spd groupset.  Have some nicer wheels available but they have a Shimano freehub - can I stick a 10spd Shimano cassette on and not have any problems?

If not, is switching the Shimano freehub to a Campag one easy/straightforward?

Thanks

I run campag 10 speed ergos with a standard shimano/SRAM 8 speed cassette and a 9 speed shimano xt mech. Works fine and I like the solid build of the Daytona ergos.

I also have a bike with 10 speed ergos and a shimano 10 speed cassette with a camag mech, but it needs a jtek shiftmate - they come in various flavours. That setup actually shifts smoother than a smooth thing on ice - I think it's the cable routing the shiftmate uses.

Some setups work very well, but you have to make sure you put the right bits together. Check Sheldon brown for all the specs.

Swap the freehub. 11 speed is compatible. Miche did cassettes in campag spacing.

I tried a shimano 10speed wheel in a bike with full Campag and it worked spot on without any adjustment.

Sheldon B has a page on compatibility, suspect you can get away with quite a lot more than you should be able to especially if theres wear in the drive train.

As above. If there is a touch of wear in the system it won't be any worse by chucking a Shimano cassette in to the mix. Assuming that the chain and cassette have matching wear that is.

Brand new I find that it not a perfect set up but once the crispness has gone any problems go.

I inherited a road bike and felt that the shifting wasn't quite right.

It turned out that the previous owner had put a Shimano wheelset on it, without considering how well it would work with the campagnolo groupset.

In the end, I got one of the miche cassettes, mentioned above, that has cogs spaced for campagnolo, but designed for a Shimano freehub - the difference in shifting was immediately obvious.

Will try to find a link for you.

Apologies - not Miche, but Ambrosio...

FWIW, got a v good condition 2nd hand Ultegra cassette, and seems to work perfectly.  Had to restrict top and bottom limit screws just a little, so guess it's a tad narrower spacing, but all good!
