After months of hanging off due to a house purchase I finally have the spare cash to get me a road bike..

After much deliberation and touring round many shops I have narrowed it down to these 2:

http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/b ... -2013.html

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mekk-pinerolo-a ... agra-2013/

I think I prefer the Merlin, not had a chance to sit on one yet as I live in Dundee but the geometry looks good for me.

So which would you choose and why? I have looked at all the usual suspects but there offer cracking value for money IMHO of course. I will be using it for fitness rides on a mix of hilly and country roads, looking to do anything from 30 - 100 miles eventually and possibly a triathlon if the shoulder behaves!!

Budget is strictly £700, I'd love the Planet X pro carbon but really can't justify that kind of money just now and I'm Bikeless at the minute. Hoping to order tomorrow for a weekend delivery.

Merlin Cycles are an excellent shop to deal with.

Both links are bad/incomplete, agree with Merlin being a good shop to deal with.

What ever you choose, fit is very important, you can upgrade parts as they wear out, fit you can't.

Yeah I have heard that.. Although when I asked for geometry and weight for the bikes I waited 3 days for the info.. I thought that was a bit long, somebody was meant to phone me back 3 or 4 times but never. It was on the run up to Christmas though so they must have been busy.

Are they up for a deal? I ask because they have a 10% discount offer when you buy the Merlin, it is for your next purchase, but I have everything I require apart from a bike so hoping they will post for free and save me £30..

They say they are in stock Teetosugars so delivery should be 2 days.. Maybe you know different? (Genuine question, not being antagonistic).

I'd love the carbon one with 105 aswell but just to pricey for me just now. I could wait a month to 6 weeks and save the extra but to be honest I'm going insane without a bike.

It might be in stock, but they'll still need to build it!
Wiggle will be the same.

I bought a Malt-RS from Merlin recently and it took 2 to 3 weeks to turn up. Cracking bike. I'd recommend Merlin any time.

Nice as the Pro Carbons is, it is very outdated geometry wise, road bikes have moved on from the compact frame, add to this, unless you have a large, the ability to use a water bottle is compromised, especially on the seat tube. (have had an SL Pro for about 5 years now)

The RT-57 and NA2 do look very nice, and have a much more current look then the Pro Carbon.
