Need to change the cables on the bike, what's the best way to get new cabkes round the bend on the bars? Old cables still in place at the moment.

With the sharp bend on the bar cable is it best to feed the inner into the outer before putting it in the bars, or will the new inner feed through ok?

Thanks in advance!

If you don't move the outer and it's taped up nice and tight the inner should slide right in...

I used a neodymium magnet and a washer tied to a piece of string. Use the magnet to pull the washer through and it will take the string with it

Slide off old outlets, slide on new outlets, pull out old inners, slide in new inners. Assuming you’re sore yes for the rest of the cable run beyond the handlebars.

Buy the Park kit. Before I saw the light I wasted far too much time with homemade setup involving a torch, fishing line, dental floss, hoovers, tweezers and so on. It’s expensive but works and it makes a frustrating job incredibly satisfying.

Park Kit is rubbish - gone through so many trying to pull hydro hoses through on new builds. See if you can keep old inners in situ and slide outers through from the lever end (usually the tricky bit)

I bought a couple of metres of flexible tube from eBay for a couple of quid, I think it’s used for fish tanks.

There’s a gcn video on YouTube how to do it. It worked perfectly for me although I couldn’t do the rear brake as the hole was only the width of the inner cable.

+1 for use an inner to guide new outer.

Remove inner, cut the old outer so it's just the section that you're trying to replace. Now thread the inner through your new outer, then through the old outer section and then just keep pulling on the inner. The ball on the end of the inner will pull on the far end of the new outer and keep the two outers butted against each other so that they follow around any tricky corners or exit holes.

Obviously you need the inner to be longer than the old section plus the new outer, which can be tricky on full length outers.

^^^^ top tip, thanks pdw!

Replaced all 4 cables, it's like having a new bike again, perfect shifting and nice easy action braking 🙂
