Hi all - going to Mallorca over Xmas and have got permission from the mrs to take the road bike. Any good source of GPXs for the island? Probably going to be staying in the northern half.

Why on Earth do you need GPX? The roads are far and few between and the junctions are clearly signed. You'd have to be a muppet to get lost. The Mallorca tourist authority gives out free an excellent plastic-coated map, which shows all the best cycling routes along with gradients, route profiles and distances clearly marked. It fits in a jersey pocket, needs no batteries and allows you to see the entire route along with the topography and any stops and attractions.

Or just go on to strava and look at the segments. See what route others did to get there.

It is easy to navigate so it is just a case of working out what bits you want to ride and then linking them up. Most roads are great.

1st ride must always be to the Lighthouse and back.....a ride that has you looking at the views with awe around every bend.  The fact its there and back, doesn't detract, as the views coming back are just as awe inspiring.

Depending on how fit you are feeling, another must is the ride down to Sa Colobra which is even more famous for the cyclists.

Both roads were designed and built in the 30's by the Italian Engineer Antonio Parietti

Enjoy!

I’m out here right now and have hired a bike from here  https://nplus1bicycles.com  which was a lot less worry and hassle than entrusting my bike to the airline. Plus, it’s a very nice steel bike that’s a treat to ride. Might be worth considering? I’ve done the ride to the lighthouse, which is like being in a roadie magazine, and my husband did Sa Calobra this morning and didn’t get lost (and he has no sense of direction at all). Only thing is I’m ill with lungs that itch 🙁 hoping to recover enough to get another ride in because the bike is too nice to just look at!

Cheers all - will check the links out. Sa Colobra looks fun - presumably can stitch into a longer ride as well. Already booked the bike bag on the plane, so it's going!

Globalti - I like to put the route in my cycle computer so I can follow it rather than have to look or carry a map.

Mr chrispy will drop you an IM.

Where exactly are tou staying? I did a big loop from Santa Ponza that takes in the north coast from Andtrax to Soller, over the Col de Soller, and back via Esporles and Galilea.

Felt like a big day out equally felt like a big accomplishment at the end!

Soller - Puig Major - Sa Calobra - Puig Major - Soller has to be the simplest ride to navigate with two of the biggest climbs on the island, the elevation profile is basically a massive capital 'M' shape!

I have alot of roues from Pollensa saved on my Garmin . I did 5 days  with Stuart Hall  cycling so we were guided around, some days more miles, less hills, other days more milage and more hills.

Sa Colobra is tough , Bradley Wiggins did it in 24 mins apparently , took me nearly an hour...

Lighthouse is amazing, but go either ealy or late to avoid the traffic , café at the end is good , if not on the expensive side, cafes inland very good value

If you PM  me i will try to do my impression of charles babbage and mail you the  Pollensa routes

If you're going out to Formentor lighthouse, try and take the detour up to Albercutx on the way back (or out), extra climb and stupendous view back over Pollensa bay and the whole of Majorca.

Also try ridewithgps, really enjoying using it with my wahoo bolt, and there's a good selection of uploaded routes if you go to the "Find" tab- free version is perfectly adequate. Can download GPX from it.

Be warned, the waitress at the Formentor cafe is horrible, she smells and she's got a beard and cloven hooves, she hangs around begging tourists for titbits and even climbs on the tables.

To date Soller is my favorite climb closely followed by all the other climbs on the island (but Puig Major is just a pig)
