Getting a bit of front wheel shudder on braking... 🙁

Had a little tumble on the bike in August, and was worried that the forks might have taken a knock. Not getting any pulling to one side on braking, but a definate judder.

I suspect it is just one part of the rim going through the blocks - but a quick wheel alignment eyeball check doesnt show any irregularities on the wheel true.

However, one front brake block is well clear of the rim, and one rubs...

How do I adjust roadie brakes to "centre" the blocks?

Old Shimano 105s

make sure you have the same gap to rim for each brake block, that rim is true and that you have a bit of toe in at the front of the brake blocks.

cleaning rim and blocks might help too.

It's not canti's is it?

Check your headset and wheel bearings while you are at it.

That was going to be my suggestion.

Is there a tension adjuster or some such?
Brakes are pretty old, but I guess road brakes haven't changed much....

Headset check is good advice. My stack did rotate the bars 90 degress from "normal" so the steerage has taken a loosening up knock. Previously they were too tight to undo / adjust

Brakes just about visible in this pic

There's a couple of ways, but they're both in this vid towards the end...

Many brakes have a little screw on the top that adjusts the centering. If not, or if it won't adjust far enough, undo the nut behind the fork, twist the whole brake a little and retighten. In fact, you can usually get away without undoing the nut - just twist the brake a little.

Same as for disc calliper:

Loosen bolt, pull brakes on, tighten bolt.

Cheers all - few things to look at there.

The brakes seem to be a little loose on the forks anyway - so the bolt through the fork crown could do with tightening...

There is an adjuster screw on top of one of the caliper arms - so I'll also have a play with that

And the 20 year old grease in the wheel bearings would justify a strip, clean and re-grease....
