So when under load the chain sounds as if it's rubbing the front mech, but it isn't as no signs of This on the front mech at all. It's doing my head as used to have a bike that 'purred' and now sounds awful. I've changed chain and cassette, jockey wheels on rear mech and even the mech hanger. Tightened chainring bolts. Any other advice? Like I say only happens under load so can't diagnose I. The stand.

Is the cassette loose on the freehub? Does it need a spacer so the lock ring tightens it all up.

Correct speed chain for the drive chain?
Directional chain?

Try removing the front mech and giving it a ride, at least this will eliminate your hunch (or not)

If this is big-big that chain will probably just be rubbing the trailing edge of the teeth on the front ring.

Mj27 hadn't thought of doing that. Shimano group set with ultegra chain.

Press fit bb. Shouldn't be wheels as they are new and kysirium equipe s. The only other thing is rear mech, so when pedalling and if I look back at the rear mech the bottom jockey wheel seems to be too far left (is towards wheel). Top one is in line as it should be.

Get your hanger straightened - poor rear mech alignment will cause noise in some gear combos more than others.

Is the chain rubbing on the mech cage - you mention the jockey wheel looks like it's pulled over to one side, which could result in it catching slightly

Bike in stand, go through all the gears, you should be able to identify any rubbing.

Replacing parts shotgun style is an inefficient and costly way of diagnosing (or not) the problem.

What change brought about the noise?

only under load/of of the saddle ... big to big and flexing of the
chainring 😉
my campag does this if I'm being lazy and cross chaining !
you could "tweak" the front mech so it's slightly tail-in ?

also double check the chain is on the right way around ... writing
should face out.

Generally tends to happen in middle to bottom of block, but it's not cross chaining. It never made the noise before and I used to use the lower part of the block and never had this noise. Tbh not sure what brogue the noise on!
