Need to replace the brake blocks on my road bike.

Any recommendations on stuff that won't break the bank.

Depends on the braking surface, are the wheels anything out of the ordinary?

Go to Wiggle choose some that will fit and are in your price range.
Does it get used much in the wet ?

Always hear Swiss stop are good. The brakes on my road bike are fine in the dry, but awful in the wet. Cheap Tektro things, but I think they have Shimano brake pads in at the moment.

I'm switching to some Sram Apex brake caliper with Swiss stop pads in (that I got a bargain on from eBay) when I get time to fit the things.

I have a single set of unused BBB Roadstop Deluxe that are surplus to requirements since I no longer have a road bike with rim brakes.

No complaints about them in use - enough stopping power for descents in the Dolomites.

Let me know your address and I'll send them out to you.

Bank - unbroken.

BBB Roadstop Deluxe

OP, this would be a win - I put some of these on my bike recently and they were a massive improvement over the original pads.

Get the Wiggle lifeline ones. I find both for Alu ans Carbon rims most excellent in all conditions for a fraction of the price.

Rumor is rhe Carbon ones are actually Reynols Blue pads.

Dura-Ace are lovely on alu rims, having played with lots of other options I keep coming back to them.

I bought some SH brakes which had green Swisstop in - swapped the pads onto my summer road bike and noticeably better performance and feel compared to standard Shimano inserts.

this made me remember something I thought about while riding my road bike yesterday. I've never changed the brake pads on it. i've had it maybe 6 years, done probably 10,000 miles on it. Brake pads are barely worn.

Stock ultegra and dura ace pads are great.
Swissstop marginally better, but probably not worth the extra cost.

Get mine from Fibrax. Make sure you get cartridge pads if you've not already got them!

If it's for winter use, then Kool Stop Dura Ace (salmon colour) are the best imho. They don't last as long as Swiss Stop Green, but the performance is better. FWIW I also recommend the Kool Stop thinline for CX cantilevers.

Gotcha! Should be on their way today.

When I say "single set" I mean, there's only one pair of brake blocks, not two pairs, but they should be more use to you than they are to me.

That's absolutely fine mate. I really appreciate the gesture.

Thinking about it I don't think I've ever changed a set of road bike blocks.

Swissstop blue here too.
Betterer than 6800 Ultegra standards in the wet by a margin

I found ultegra 6800 okay in the wet, but noticed I'd worn the rim passed the wear indicator in just 2 long very wet rides.
Lifeline in st the moment, but I thought I'd use something fancy for the winter.
What are the SS blue like at rim wear?

They're on their way, mate. These ones were way better than the stock Campag ones they replaced. If I could set 'em up properly, they must be well designed. They have a wee sort of ball-socket thing in the back of the blocks that makes it easy to fine-tune the angle of them against the rim.

Changed the standard pads on my shimano 105 brakes to swissstop and the difference is night and day. Green swisstop, wheels are campagnolo neutrons, great upgrade

Whatever pads you fit, they will work better if you clean them and the rims after a wet mucky ride and pick out the shiny bits of alloy and grit.
