In the market for a new road bike and the Focus Izalco Team looks like a good deal and ticks all the right boxes.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Focus_Izalco_Team_2009/5360037582/

Is it too good a deal? Are the frames where the cost saving has been made?
Any other bikes at this level to consider?

My Bianchi 928 will has been a great bike will be relegated to winter duties.

Cheers in advance!

You'd be hard-pressed to get a better spec for that price, I doubt the frame is compromised either. That said if I was spending £3k on a road bike I'd want a decent test ride on it first and would likely want something Italian with a slightly lower groupset/wheel spec but that's just me :p

You've kinda summed up what's holding me back from hitting the buy button. My head says that it's a good deal but my heart says Italian!!!

Take a look at the Tour and see how many are riding Focus Bikes! That usually tells you something 😀

Not really Footstomper, they're all professionals paid to ride what their sponsors/team tell them to...

It's a nice looking bike with a decent spec, I doubt you'd be disappointed, but TBH if I had that much money to spend, I'd be down to a decent Roadie shop and try to haggle a bargain.

i've got a 2009 focus cayo 105... it's a superb bike, and the advice over email from wiggle has been better than a couple of LBS's i've been in, and far better than what i've had out of halfords here in sheff (was looking at boardman bikes aswell, but couldn't justify giving halfords cash!).

the frames are fab - even with 120psi in the tyres, they ride comfy but are massively stiff in acceleration.

you also get 7 days to ride it, and if you're not happy with the size, you send it back to swap for another

i don't think you lose anything really over more popular italian marques - you just gain spec and save cash 🙂 i think the focus bikes look superb in the flesh too - even better than in pictures!

make sure you look at their sizing chart carefully, and compare equivalent top tube lengths - a focus XL is like most others L, but Focus make a bigger range of sizes in their bikes than most companies.

Wiggle/Focus do a 7-day test ride, so you can send it back if you don't get on with it.

Doubt you would have a problem though. Recommended one to a mate who rides at a high level and he is loving it. Not had a single problem.

I love my Focus but for 3k I'd get fitted up for something fancy!
