8 of us went from Rivington Lane Car Park round Anglezarke reservoir over to Healy Nab, back round Anglezarke and up to Rivington Pike.

After we descended to the gate we turned right and went to the spooky house/tower.

We got a bit lost here and went straight down some steep steps with sharp right angles then down through the trees, quite steep. We were looking for the Chinese gardens section, where should we have gone?

Great riding round there, we'll definitely go back but I'd like to make the most out of the descent next time!

Cheers.

The best way down is known as the ice cream run , plenty of videos on youtube.
On the road just above the pidgeon tower keep going and bear left at the end of the road

Even though I live locally and have been up loads of times I still don't know where the chinese gardens are !

There are no legal bike routes through the gardens.

Much more interesting descents in the gardens than the ice cream run

Please don't ride the gardens on a sunny Sunday afternoon, place is full of walkers and riding on footpaths doesn't do us any favours with United utilities (the landowners).
However if you're there in quieter times, start at the back of the toilet block under the pike and explore from there.

Ah didn't realise there were no legit routes through the gardens, I saw a few videos on YouTube and thought they looked interesting! I haven't got any os mapping for that area so we were running a bit blind.

Ice cream run it is next time.

I heard about another run called San Marino, is that a legal route down?

It's a bit trial and error round there for me without maps, my normal riding is the dales and Calderdale.

San marino is great fun, it's "legal" aswell.

You can easily see the track in google maps in satellite mode. Just find the big masts and it's the track leading east to south/east towards belmont.
