Hi,
As above really, I’d be interested to hear some opinions. I already own a Signal Ti and ride pretty much everything on it but I want a full suss for Welsh trail centre , natural stuff (from tame to difficult) and the odd BPW day. The Ripmo looks like a great all rounder without being an enduro beast. The Stumpy’s adjustable geometry looks interesting as I could stick it in low and slack for BPW and then steepen it up for the easier trails.
Demos are pretty hard to come by at the moment so I might just take a chance.
Cheers
Or...Or...Or
the bike you really want is a Deviate Highlander.
Sadly they are out of stock ! Great looking bikes !
I really, really like both bikes, they're at the top of my list of a new frame next year.
I think i'm going to go with the stumpy. The builds are slightly better vfm and I like the adjustable geo. I also need an XL and think the ripmo's chainstay lengths are a little short for that size.
Is there anything in stock, anywhere?
I was considering the Ripmo V2 before I went for the Highlander and the availability(and demo) swung it for me..
Next batch lands April I believe, and that's a lot sooner than some.
I've got an AF which is the same geo. I bloody love it. Super capable in chunk yet still poppy and a load of fun when I went it to be. The DVO stuff is brilliant
However, the waiting list is huge, and I can totally understand why you'd want longer chainstays on an XL.
Norco whatevertheequivalentis?
But Evans.
My mate has a new ripmo. I couldn't keep up with him last night despite him just getting back into riding after a nasty injury and ages off the MTB.
He has had lots of nice bikes in the past, I've never been able to keep up with him. Except once when I was on my Geometron.
So get a ripmo, it looked pretty ace in grey and can be piloted at immense speed down some nasty slippy, rooty tech in the dark. My mate said it was great.
Ridden neither, but I've get the Stumpy for the same reason as yourself (and I agree about the chainstay length on the Ripmo).
Though in reality I'd probably get something else instead, either an Orange or possibly one of the new Vitus or Sonders - or even the new Spectral.
There’s a few Ripmo’s are about but the Stumpy is harder to find. I’m Looking to buy in the spring so hopefully stock will be better by then.
I wouldn't count on it dude. Ripmo availability is currently listed as September '21 for an xl 🙁
😢
I’ve got a new Stumpy Evo & didn’t (and wouldn’t) even consider a Ripmo, not sure if that helps or not.
I came from a new Enduro which was a great bike for riding everything absolutely flat out, at race pace, but not much fun for everything else, even with the terrain to make it work.
I've got the 21 stumpy evo and its a great bike. I went for it because the geo is pretty dialled and I genuinely struggled to find a bike out there that offered better value for money (not often you can say that about specialized!). The swat box with the internal bottle is a game changer, basically eliminated carrying a backpack/bumbag for me. The bike rides brilliant, can take big hits while still feeling light and poppy.
Its also the small details as well, the evo only has 2 different pivot bearing sizes so easy to replace bearings.
I did think about the ripmo but was put off by reviews saying it rode like a long legged trail bike rather than a more enduro orientated bike, plus the fact that its linkage runs on igus bushings which arent as durable as bearings in muddy conditions.
The main issue is trying to find either of these bikes. From what i hear, specialized have oversold the evos for 2021 already so unless you find one in stock in a shop somewhere, you may end up having to wait for the 2022 model year evos.
@Hob-Nob Whats the sizing like between the new Stumpy Evo and the new Enduro.
I haven't ridden many other bikes recently but I got a Ripmo V2 as a crash replacement for my V1 a few weeks back and it's a big improvment over V1. it rails berms, descends better and the rear suspension is more plush using the same DPX2 from my V1.
I demo'd a Forbidden Druid with a mullet set up in mid October and I'd take a V1 or V2 Ripmo over the Druid any day.

Like for like, the Stumpy is a bit smaller, but it covers a wider range of sizes as it goes up to S6. Technically I could ride an S4, 5 or 6 because the seat tubes are quite short which is good, as you can pick something that suits your preference rather than be hampered by dropper post lengths etc. The biggest difference is the weight (significantly lighter) and the BB height is a lot lower, even accounting for the extra sag with the Enduro.
Tried both the Druid & the Highlander. Couldn’t get on with either to be fair, I know what I like & what works for me & neither on paper tick the boxes which translates to feel on the trail.
Thanks, we are on S3 Enduros as the S4 felt too long in reach. However our large 2019 Stumpy 29 feels too long compaired to the S3 Enduro. Probably don't need another bike just yet. 🤔
As the past owner of a v1 alloy Evo, I wouldn't touch a '21 one unless they significantly beefed up all the pivots and fittings. Mine was falling apart after an year.
Currently on a Bird AM9, wondering why I even bothered with a big name brand
Thanks for all the replies , very useful! I have to say that I also considered a Bird AM9 but that’s also out of stock until at least January, the last time I checked anyway.
Love my Ripmo, instantly felt at home on it and its a real confidence inspiring bike that does everything well. 2 mates have bought one since i got mine and love them to.
Anyone seen the new Swat system? Was wondering how much you can actually fit in it but not really found a video properly showcasing it. I may have got it wrong but I think they've made it bigger for the 2021 model
I've had a Ripmo AF since April and bloody love it. I've done big pedally days on it including a 100km ride over the South Downs, ridden it on some pretty steep stuff near the FOD, ridden it at bike parks too and it's been perfect for me. I've done 1500 miles on it so far and had no issues with the bushings either.
There are a heap of really decent bikes in the same category though and I reckon you'd be happy on any one of them. The biggest issue is going to be getting your hands on one.
Sure I've seen people comment on this thread about the Ripmo vs Evo, I believe the opinion matched one above where the Ripmo was considered a long legged trail bike vs the stumpy being a scaled down enduro bike.
Also sure there's a post in there about how much can fit in the SWAT when the bladder bottle is being used.

They have, not by much in terms of volume though.
I can only compared to the current Enduro, but there is a lot more space than that has - as you can go right down the downtube to the BB. You can stuff things quite a long way up the DT too, just be careful you don't wedge it too far up there, or have a 'tail' you can pull on.
As an advocate of not wearing a pack the SWAT system take things to another level rather than having stuff strapped to your bike, in pockets, bibs with pockets etc.

Totally agree with this. I had a 2016 stumpjumper with the SWAT box and tools. It is such a great system. Surprised that it's only Trek that seems to have copied it so far.
One planet adventure has an XL ripmo AF in stock, according to their insta.

We're just about halfway through December, so not long until January! Dan Hodge at Bird was confident (given the current climate) January is realistic too. The AM9 has plenty of praise, Bird have been great at answering my questions and the ability to spec a bike to budget is good too. And being direct sales you get more for your money.
