Have all three of those 😉 But to calibrate shockwiz, I need to be able to compress and extend the x2 with zero PSI. Dropping it to zero has the shock at max travel but can't extend it at all as - I suspect - neg spring is too strong or - as I also suspect based on experience - X2 is somehow broken! Seems to work okay tho.

So I thought I'll ask Ibis for the compression ratio which I can enter as a proxy for calibration. They don't know, suggest I ask Fox. Asked Fox they said well it's probably 2:1 ish. But don't hold us to that.

Questions are a) is this normal for an X2 and/or b) any way to work out compression ratio of shock?

I do have another possibly not broken X2 in a different size somewhere I could do a similar test on. But that would involve remembering where I filed it....

Let the air out slower and move it the first 12mm or so of shock travel to fully extended to equalise the negative chamber as you go.

Have you taken the valve core out? Let the air out as normal the take the valve core out, then compress the shock. Should let the neg air out as well then.

Probably.

Hmm tried both.

Letting air out gently and cycling shock: same issue just less and less of shaft showing as the pressure dropped.

Removing valve core: nothing equalised from what I could feel.

That's how the shock looks with the air taken out. No way I can pull it more than a few mm

Edit: it seems picture upload, and flickr auto-show both broken!

I have a Shockwiz and don't remember it being a problem on my Ripmo @Alex, although it is a DPX2 shock.

Think I let the pressure out slowly with the back wheel off the ground, so the bikes weight wasn't compressing the shock. Can't remember exactly as it was years ago but, I got it to work relatively easily.

You need to let the air out really slowly. Painfully slow! And cycle the shock every 30psi lost. Make sure you can fully extend when doing this. Had the same with mine. I do find it will still suck in but you can easily extend.

Hi Adam - winner! Put it on the andystand and then I could pull it to full extension with air removed. Ta!

Shockwiz installed, big ride tomorrow, extreme faffage I expect!

@gavjackson1984 - that was my next approach but @twonks lazyman technique seems to have done the job.

Excellent news @ Alex 🙂

Not sure if this is still a thing, but I also remember having to pump the shock up in 30 to 50 PSI increments, jumping it up and down a few times in-between.

that's defo a thing still. Every 30 psi, 10 slow compressions to even out + and - springs. So it says in the manual. To be fair that X2 does feel good. First Ibis I've ridden with the 'traction tune' and I didn't expect to like after reading reviews, but can't say I've noticed!
